January - St. Luke Lutheran Church
St. Luke Lutheran Church 900 Maryvale Drive Cheektowaga, NY 14225-2702 716-633-6752-www.stluke-buffalo.org We are called by God’s grace to enlighten all people in Jesus Christ From The Pastor Happy New Year! Well, 2015 is over and 2016 is here. And all I have to say is God is so good! As I reflect back on 2015 all I have to say is that our Lord and Savior has truly bless us. And I truly echo the words of Paul in Ephesians 1:16-17: I have not stopped thanking God for you. I pray for you constantly, asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God. January 2016 As a church we've seen many wonderful things happen this year: Over 400 people worship with us on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day (23.6% increase from last year) 24 children and 1 adult were welcome into our family through baptism! Pastor Phil Schultz Pam Maconaghy Editor Email: stlukechips@yahoo.com We welcomed 20 new Member into our congregation 6 Young adults confirmed thief faith Sunday School has grown Bible Study has grown The list could go on and on, and while there has been a lot of good, it hasn't been without challenges. Specifically, we fell short of meeting our budget for this year. Currently, we are $7,742.64 short of our goal for the year. But even there, we find the faithfulness of God, we took in $13,410.34 a 5.9% increase form 2014! SERVICES Saturday 5:00 pm As we now prepare to begin another year at St. Luke I want you to think about something. Imagine if your home was filled not with windows, but with mirrors. You’d have no natural light; no awareness of what is going on outside. Instead, you’d spend your time looking at...yourself. And where would that leave you? The sad truth is that many church have become churches of mirrors and not of window. Spending their energy, time, money, and talents looking at themselves. Sunday 9:00 am 10:00 —10:45 Christian Education An old pastor friend of mine, once challenged his congregation to become a church of windows and not of mirrors, and it’s my challenge for us in 2016. The life and mission of Jesus was to be a window. He was sent as Savior of the entire world, and after His death and resurrection, His great commission changes His Church to be a window into the world with the saving power of the Gospel. To be focus on the world around, but just within. 11:00 am Blended/Contemporary Inside this issue: So my pray for 2016 is that God continues to bring blessings to St. Luke, but let’s share the blessing to the world around us. May we be a church of windows and go beyond our walls and share the hope that changes every with our community, our region, our state, our nations, the world. Page 3 Christmas Wednesday Night Bible Study Christians— Pastor Schultz will be holding a new bible study on Wednesday evenings in January (January 6, 13, 20 and 27) in the Fellowship area from 7:00 to 8:00 pm. What does it mean to be a Christian? What if believers today embodied the traits of the early followers of Jesus? Could we change the world? In the 4 week study we will answer the questions: What does it mean to be a Christian? How do we, as followers of Jesus, treat those who are outside the faith? How do we as Christians, respond to each other. Why do people love Jesus, but hate His followers? Join us as we unpack what it means to be a Christian. Questions? Please talk to Pastor Phil. There is a sign up sheet in the fellowship area. Theme Tray Auction It’s hard to believe, but plans are in the worked for the 2016 Theme tray Auction, which will be held on Saturday, April 9th. Kim Spence it the Chair of the event and the proceeds of the auction will be used to send our St. Luke Children to Pioneer Camp, this summer. Just a few of the jobs that are needed are TV raffle ticket sellers, basket makers, delivering letters to frequently patronized businesses, sign makers, ticket sales, kitchen help, basket runners and number callers. There will be a sign up sheet located ont eh Fellowship Desk for these positions.
