TWENTY-NINTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME – OCTOBER 19, 2014
PARISHIONERS SPEAK:
The 3 LEGGED STOOL
Family Meals + Family Prayer + Sunday Mass =
Stronger Families
LEG #1 Family Meals:
Eating meals together during the school year is
hard, because lunch is early enough that they are
hungry by 5pm. My husband is usually home between 6-6:45pm during the week but tries to have it
on the earlier side some days of the week when he
can. Going in earlier during the week would not
change that much, most of it is due to him working
for a smaller business and wearing many hats
there. So I may feed the kids before he gets home,
but then maybe a snack or dessert is had with him
while he eats, so we still have the time together at
the table. And sometimes it means we are in the
living room after dinner together talking or hanging out too. Weekends we try to eat together too.
Actually Friday nights tends to be a night we don't
have sports or other activities, so we make sure to
not over plan and have time with just the 5 of us
and stay together with whatever we may do. A Parishioner
Family Prayer: Rosary
In the month of October join fellow parishioners in
praying the rosary 25 minutes before each Sunday
(Saturday evening also) Mass. We will pray for
these two intentions: (1) the strengthening of families
at Ascension and St. Bernard and (2) the conversion
of terrorists/world peace. Two members of a particular family will lead some of these rosaries: fatherdaughter; grandfather-grandson; mother-son—i.e.
Family Prayer!
I will be away on retreat from October 26th after
Masses through Oct. 31st. There will not be weekday Masses that week. I have another priest covering for emergencies and will leave his number on my
office phone voicemail. You will be in my prayers.
Please pray for me.

St. Bernard Preschool Accreditation: We are always
taking the opportunities for making improvements in
school. Many preschools in the state of Minnesota joined
in the NAEYC’S (National Association for Education of
Young Child) accreditation process. Our school was registered to go through the accreditation process in last January. Part of the expenses was paid by the agency. It was
almost a year long process of setting up the classroom and
also with suggested materials. St. Bernard had the accreditation visit on September 30th. We had all the required
elements. We now are waiting for the certificate. Accreditation has helped the school improve the preschool curriculum and challenge our students to think creatively.

October 19th Twenty-Eighth Sunday in
Ordinary Time
For those working to promote the sanctity of all human life: May they be strengthened through the
grace of Christ;
We pray to the Lord:
Church of St. Bernard
Cologne, MN
Our students have been given the wonderful opportunity to be missionaries! The
school is participating in the Stuff-the-Truck
program sponsored by Machenthun’s Foods in Waconia. Non-perishable foods and toiletry items that
are donated will benefit the food shelves in the county, specifically, in Waconia, Norwood-Young America and Watertown. Of course, cash will be gratefully accepted to purchase perishable items. We ask
that students bring their donations between October
20 and November 14 and place them in the boxes in
their classrooms. There will be a box in the narthex
of the church also. A list of needed items is available
in the narthex. So, let’s help stuff that truck!
Annual Chili Feed. We have an estimated total of
$6,175.00 profit. There are still a few bills to come in.

The Buildings and Grounds Committee is recommending the furnace be replaced in the rectory. The furnace is
over 60 years old and is failing, the project cost is $7,000
and we are short of funds by $2,600. Please use the envelops in the church pews to make your contribution. We
can save about $1,000 by helping with the removal and
disposal of the old furnace please use the envelop to indicate your availability to help, time will be flexible.
Please turn in your Milk Moola caps and plastic tops
along with any "Our Family" labels from Econo Foods.
Deposit them in the box located in the Narthex of the
church. Each one is worth 5 cents and proceeds go to the
school.
Southwest Carver County Food Shelf: In the Month of
November St. Bernard provides 2 volunteers to help at the
Food shelf on the 4 Tuesdays of the Month. Please contact
Patsy Quinn at 952-466-3304. THANK YOU.
