RITES OF THE
CATHOLIC CHURCH
BY MSGR. PABLO NAVARRO
MONDAY, JUNE 9 AT 7:29 P.M.
There are 24 Rites in the Catholic Church. Our
Rite, the Roman/Latin Rite is only one of them.
While it is the largest in the church it is important
to know who our other brothers and sisters in the
faith are. What do I know about these Rites...what
do they teach us.

PASTOR’S REFLECTION
Pentecost - June 8, 2014
Dear Friends,
St. Paul reminds us in the second reading today, “In one
Spirit we are all baptized into one body.” All the baptized
have been drawn into the body of Christ, and now live in
that place where the Holy Spirit dwells, the Spirit that fills
and gives life to Christ’s body...and this body of Christ
into which we have been drawn exhales us out into the
world, to live as followers of Christ and so be His witnesses.
•
How do I let God breathe me into the body of Christ?
•
How do I let God breathe me out into the world?
As you reflect on God’s Word, may He strengthen you
with His peace. May the good Lord bless you and your
dear family abundantly each day. Please pray for me.
In Christ,
Msgr. Pablo A. Navarro
JUSTICE CORNER – JUNE 8
PENTECOST
Today’s scriptures remind us that the Spirit is social and
leads us into solidarity with the world. The Spirit changes
our behavior and moves us into community.
The Holy Spirit opened locked doors, replaced fear with
courage, proclaimed peace, imparted grace to forgive sins,
and empowered the fearful to speak boldly in many
tongues.
Today, the Spirit imparts gifts to be shared, inspires
messages of peace, and calls us to care for others. The
Spirit imparts grace to identify with the needs and
struggles of the world, listen to people who are poor or
oppressed, and speak up for justice. The Spirit emboldens
us to take personal risks for the sake of building God’s
Kingdom on earth.
What is God asking you to risk to take? Think about a
situation that makes you uneasy. Is God calling you to
engage with someone who makes you feel uncomfortable
because of their lifestyle, donate to a cause though your
finances are lean, or spend time ministering to prisoners,
addicts, or unlovable?

SJN WOMEN’S EMMAUS
HALF-DAY RETREAT - JUNE 28
Join your Emmaus Sisters as we continue our journey…On Saturday, June 28, we will be hosting a
LIVING EMMAUS retreat in Rooms E & F from
8:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. This is a half-day retreat offered to all women who've already attended an Emmaus weekend retreat.
•
The theme for this year's LIVING EMMAUS
retreat is: “Spa for the Soul”
See what impact one day set aside for you, for prayer,
for time with the Lord will accomplish in your life.
Jesus, himself, reveals the fruit of time on retreat
when he said: “Come to me, all you who are weary…
and you will find rest for your souls. “MT 11:28-29”
The invitation from Jesus is to attach to His strength, learn
from His truth, and discover the gift of His “rest for your
soul”. This mini-retreat will provide the opportunity to
bring your whole self — body, soul, and spirit — into His
“rest.”. A $25 fee will be collected to cover expenses. A
light breakfast and lunch are included. Registration is required. Stop by the registration table after all weekend
Masses (June 7 – June 22) for more details.
