THE OFFICIAL NEWSLETTER OF CAMP EVERGREEN APRIL-MAY 2013 MDS TO ENGAGE CAMP EVERGREEN’S CABIN FEVER We are very much looking forward to this summer when Mennonite Disaster Service will be partnering with us to, Lord willing, frame the remaining planned cabins. Each summer MDS picks a project and this year we are blessed to be their focus. For four weeks, from July 21st to August 17th, MDS will be on site helping us frame the next cabins. Consider helping us by contacting MDS to volunteer. We're also looking for financial support to raise the $150,000 needed to ensure we have the supplies on hand for MDS. Moving forward we are making an intentional shift with the Cabin Fever Project. We want to finish the remaining cabins with as much volunteer labour as we can. On Saturday, May 25th we are planning a site preparation weekend to make sure we're ready for MDS. Once the cabins are framed we want to have other work days with different focuses. If you can stand, drill and pull, we'll be having a weekend of pulling electrical wire, coupled with Ken's cinnamon buns, we trust many of you will join us. If you get excited about insulation, we'll have the best insulation party you've ever seen. We know that your involvement at camp not only helps us, but will deepen our relationship and renew your excitement. The main reason we're naming the cabins after our churches is much more than a fundraising strategy. It's a strong statement that we need you, we value our relationship, and we want to be reminded daily at camp of our connection and roots. Some people, in order to discover God, read books. But there is a great book: the very appearance of created things. Look above you! Look below you! Note it. Read it. God, whom you want to discover, never wrote that book with ink. Instead He set before your eyes the things that He had made. Can you ask for a louder voice than that? St. Augustine (354-430) CONSIDER SOCIETY MEMBERSHIP AT CAMP EVERGREEN As an independent society, under Alberta, Camp Evergreen is owned by its members, who elect a board of directors which governs the organization. We welcome new members who are excited in seeing the ministry of Camp Evergreen continue to flourish. Why membership? We at Camp Evergreen are passionate about the unique opportunities presented by camping ministry and are looking for individuals and churches who want to join us in fulfilling our mission. The membership commitment may be financial, prayer support, time as a volunteer, expertise or other gifts. Membership enables you to be part of our mission and show your commitment to Camp Evergreen and the difference it is making. Members will: Have an active role in the difference Camp Evergreen is making in people’s lives every day. Be entitled to full participation in the annual general meeting, including voting privileges. Be eligible to participate as a board member. Receive regular updates and prayer requests, along with our newsletter. Attend the annual member’s day at no cost. Have the opportunity to serve on committees including prayer, site, finance, personnel, fundraising and others. Sincerely pray that the Lord will be exalted, and lives will be changed, through this ministry. Strive to participate in some sort of service for the camp (financially or otherwise) knowing that without this commitment the camp ministry would not function. Make every reasonable effort to be present at each of Camp Evergreen’s business meetings, most importantly the Annual General Meeting each spring. (The 2013 AGM is planned for June 29th.) How do I become a member, and what is expected of me? New Kids on the Block aka new horses in the herd Cowboy Eddie Meet Cowboy: Cowboy is a former rodeo, barrel racing and ranch horse and he has done lots of travelling in the mountains on pack trips. He is 18 years old, which is kind of like being 50 or 60 if he were human. With all those years behind him, Cowboy has lots of experience and know-how. He's very friendly and not at all bossy, like some horses are. Even though he's older Cowboy still has plenty of energy and he loves to go for a good ride, whether it's a fast run across the pasture or a nice, relaxing walk through the trees. Meet Eddie: Eddie came to us one day before Cowboy but already the two have become fast friends. Eddie is a little older, at the age of 20, but he seems to think he's still a young fellow. He likes a good run but he also likes to work slowly and just relax in the sun. Eddie really, really likes to have the sides of his face scratched. That is kind of odd for a horse but Eddie will push against your hand just like a dog or a cat will. Maybe it's just because he's shedding his winter hair right now and so he's itchy all over. Can you spot seven differences in these two photos?
