Hello from Camp Evergreen! My name is Bob Kroeker and I am very excited to join the staff here at Camp Evergreen and want to thank you for allowing me to work at your camp. By way of Thoughts from the Director's Desk introduction, my wife, Bev, and I have spent most of our vocational career in full time ministry. We have been youth pastors in Saskatchewan and BC, camp directors in Alberta and B.C. and come to Evergreen most recently from Cranbrook, B.C. floats I started as executive director August 1, 2012 and was able to see camp in full swing for a few weeks. What a privilege to see our campers being challenged, not only physically in the different activities, but also spiritually, as their counsellors and weekly speakers presented clearly the Good News of Jesus Christ. One of Camp Evergreen’s mandates is found in Psalm 78:4, "We will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the LORD, His power, and the wonders He has done." What will 2013 bring to Camp Evergreen? My vision is to see a vibrant, growing ministry here, in tune with God's leading and direction. A vision of a financially stable ministry closely partnering with our churches. I see your children and youth coming to Evergreen and returning home excited about their walk with Christ, excited because they just had the best week of their summer! I hope that their enthusiasm and excitement brings their non-churched friends to camp and then back to our churches, which could then lead to opportunities to plug into these friends parents lives. As many of you know, we have been on the road to becoming a Society for several years. As a society, Camp Evergreen needs the support of our churches and constituency more than ever. I like how Andrew Baerg, our board chairman, stated it in his 2012 Christmas letter, “How do you fit into all of this? Camp Evergreen is unique in that its primary mission field exists outside of the community it is physically located in. In fact, our mission field is YOUR neighbourhood! Many kids who come through Camp Evergreen with school groups also come back for summer camp. After their week at camp, learning about Jesus and hearing the Gospel, they return to YOUR communities. Our partnership with you and with your church is incredibly valuable and essential to our mission! Camp Evergreen is nothing except for the sum total of individuals who support it. We depend on prayer partners, volunteers and donors to fulfill our mission. This dependence is no accident, but designed by God. Without it, we would quickly become nothing more than a business.” Please consider this your invitation to stop by for some coffee and a chat. I would love to share with you more of my vision for camp and how our constituency is an integral part of the ministry here at Evergreen. We covet your prayers for this coming year, that we would continue to seek God's leading and strive to portray Him in all we do. Six teams participated in this fundraiser, bringing in approximately $9,200 to help give campers the best week of their summer. Team Wickersham from Linden skated their way to victory and were able to (figuratively) hoist the Golden Skates award! Team Lendrum was the top fundraising team and we are also especially grateful that we had a corporate sponsor for Team SOLE (thanks to (or something like that) SOLE Footwear of Calgary.)
