Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation
Location ~
Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation is located
on the northwest corner of Hancock County, east of
Marion County (Indianapolis) and just south of
Hamilton County (Fishers). The MVCSC is comprised
of Vernon Township and Buck Creek Township. Four
towns are located in the school district: Fortville,
McCordsville, Mt. Comfort and Mohawk, plus part of
Cumberland.
Schools ~
MVCSC has five schools, three of which are located on
the Fortville school campus: Mt. Vernon High School,
Mt. Vernon Middle School, and Fortville Elementary.
The elementary schools are kindergarten – 5th grade
(with Mt. Comfort Elementary hosting pre-school).
The Mt. Vernon Middle School is 6th – 8th Grade, with
the 8th grade located in Mt. Vernon High School (9th –
12th grades). All MVCSC schools are award-winning
and provide academic excellence with innovative
educational programming in a safe and secure environment.
Students ~
MVCSC has nearly 3,600 students. Several schools are nearing capacity and are now limiting transfer students. MVCSC
has experienced a massive growth in enrollment of 50% in last 15 years.

Home of The Marauders
Mt. Vernon High School (MVHS) is located on the Fortville
school campus and received a renovation and expansion
that was finished in 2011. MVHS has nearly 1,200 students
and offers a wide variety of educational opportunities to
challenge students. Staff promotes academic achievement
through independent and critical thinking which will develop skills necessary for lifelong learning.







Mt. Vernon Middle School (MVMS), also located on the Fortville campus,

8th Grade “Walk on Water” science experiment.






Fortville Elementary School (FES) is also located on the
Fortville campus in the former 5th-6th Grade Intermediate
building. FES is a Title 1 school that seeks to maximize each
student’s potential by working with the family and community to
provide a strong academic foundation and citizenship to prepare
students for society. Art, music and physical education are provided for all students.






McCordsville Elementary (MES) is located just west of the Fortville
campus and provides a meaningful education with teachers who engage
students and provide a safe and caring environment. Building capacity has
now been reached with several years of growing enrollment. Strong
community support and involvement has been a portion of MES’s success
since opening in January 2006. Art, music and physical education are provided for all students.






Mt. Comfort Elementary (MCE) is located south of the
Fortville campus near I-70 and is the most recently constructed building
taking occupancy in fall 2009. The staff strives to provide a stimulating
and positive learning environment to challenge students to reach their full
potential. Staff enriches students with creative curriculum that provides a foundation for life-long learning. Art, music
and physical education are provided for all students.






MVCSC Administration and School Board
The mission of the Mt. Vernon Community School
Corporation is to Engage, Educate and Empower
today’s students to seize tomorrow’s opportunities.
The MVCSC administration building is located on the Fortville
school campus. The superintendent reports to five school board
members who were elected at large. Currently, two board
members began their term January, 2015, and the other three
were elected in 2013. The administration facility houses the
following departments: transportation, business and payroll, health
services, food services, part of the technology staff, as well as the
superintendent, assistant superintendent and support staff.

Qualifications:




Valid Indiana Superintendent’s License required.
Five (5) years or more classroom teaching experience preferred.
Central office experience preferred.
Doctorate preferred, but not required.
Employment Terms:


Three (3) year contract beginning July 1, 2015.
