When Brooke Prahl volunteered to wash feet last year in the
Samaritan’s tent at Convoy of Hope Fox Cities, an annual outreach
to provide the less fortunate with basic necessities, it touched her
soul.
“People were so excited to get their feet washed,” the 17-year-old
New London girl said of the experience. “You just sit there and
wash their feet, and their stories are so heartbreaking. Seeing
everyone and seeing people I actually knew ... I never really
realized there were a lot of needs right here and in my hometown.”

“I want to serve as many people as I possibly can,” said Brooke
who, with her family, attends Christ the Rock Community Church in
Menasha. The church’s Reach team leader John Slotten, who
brought Convoy of Hope to the Fox Cities back in 2010, is guiding
Brooke through the process.

An event of this magnitude is a huge undertaking, Slotten said.
“(Brooke) came to me with a vision that she would really like to do
this in her community. She was so touched by her involvement with
Convoy of Hope here in the Fox Cities and thought there’s people
in my community that need this, too.”

“She just has run with it — what an incredible woman,” Slotten
said. “God really does use ordinary people in extraordinary ways.
And it just goes to show it doesn’t matter what age you are.”

“I have so many things I want to do; I’m not quite sure how I’ll mix
them all together,” Brooke said.
Somehow, I think she’ll find a way.
