At the foot of the Sassongher Mountain Resort information – Corvara Corvara is a beautiful resort at the foot of the Sassongher Mountain. The sunny plain lies at an altitude of 1,568m above sea level with lifts going up to over 2,000m. The town itself was one of the first in the area to develop winter tourism. People had been climbing in this area from the mid-1700s, and a cable-way was constructed in 1938, making it one of the first established ski areas in South Tyrol. The Alpine town is peaceful, without any compromise of top quality leisure activities. The history of the town means tourist activities have been carefully considered and developed to the highest standard. Corvara boasts a number of excellent restaurants and fashionable shops. Other attractions include an indoor ice-rink, beauty and wellness centres, a golf course, tennis courts, climbing and a biotope lake with sunbeds on the lawn. There are also out-standing natural attractions. Taking the lifts up from Corvara you can reach a point at which you can enjoy incomparable panoramas of the Dolomites peaks of Alta Badia, up to the Marmolada Glacier and even the Austrian Alps. For more adventurous excursions you can drive to one of the two nature parks that lay either side of Corvara. Puez-Geister Nature Park is around 30 mins drive away, and the larger Franes-Sennes-Prags Nature Park is just under an hour. In winter you can stick to the 130 km of slopes in the Alta Badia region or, using your skipass that also covers the Dolomiti Superski area, you can have access to 1,100km of slopes. Corvara has slopes best suited for beginners and intermediates so for expert skiing you may want to get a Dolomiti Superski Pass. With only 1 skipass you can enjoy 12 unforgettable ski areas with a total of 1,200km of perfectly prepared slopes served by 450 lifts. At the heart of the Dolomiti Superski circuits is the world famous Sella Ronda mountain range. Recent improvements and investment in ski lifts connecting once independent resorts now permits skiers to ski round the mountain range of the Sella Ronda over the mountain passes of Campolongo, Gardena, Sella and Pordoi, directly connecting in a circular route the ski networks of Val Gardena, Alto Badia, Arabba and Val di Fassa. There are plenty of red and blue slopes for beginners and families with small children. The more expert skiers instead choose more demanding slopes such as the Vallon-Boè, 4.5km long and the Col Alt. From Corvara you have direct “skis on feet” access to two of the most beautiful skiing excursions of the Alps, the “Sellaronda” and the “Skiing tour of the First World War”. The ski resort itself is at 1,568m, so skiing or boarding back to the resort is usually possible. Discover new slopes every day and the charming Dolomites landscapes. The SellaRonda is one of the world’s most spectacular ski tours round the mountain range of the Sella Ronda, part of the Dolomites Unesco Heritage Site. Located in the heart of the Dolomiti Superski network it is a full day’s circuit, 42km, which offers great skiing and spectacular panoramic views without even skiing the same slope twice nor taking your skis off. The circular route takes you over 4 mountain passes all set against a background of pine woodlands, rocky peaks and endless challenging and exciting snow slopes. The many refuges, alpine bars and restaurants en route make for a great day of fun and skiing. Piste Map- Dolomiti Superski and Sella Ronda Piste Map- Corvara the heart of the Alta Badia Two UNESCO protected nature parks near by Summer Summer in Corvara is just as good as the winter. The Italian town has everything needed for a relaxing break in the mountains. The area is very popular with cyclists and the mountain bike trails are an ideal way to spend a summers day. If you’re not that into wheels, you can of course do these on foot; the lifts that take you up to 2,000 m above sea level, operate during summer months too, so you can experience the impressive views in all seasons. There are also two nature parks nearby, both are within an hour’s drive and are places of incredible natural beauty, with even more walking and mountain bike trails to explore. The area as a whole has a rich history so there are sights to see along the way. A real highlight in the actual town is the biotope lake where you can relax on a warm summers day and even work on a tan as there are sunbeds put out on the lawn. With great views of the Sassongher Mountain this is an idyllic way to spend the summer. There are also lots of activities for anyone that can’t keep still, but don’t want to stray too far from town. There are climbing facilities, including a climbing wall to practise on. There are tennis courts and a golf course for more competitive sporting activities; the golf course is a 9-hole course and is set in stunning scenery, with a putting range and a snack-bar it is the ideal way to spend an afternoon. If you really miss the winter, you can always head to the indoor ice-rink.
