The 411 on the 419 CIC:
It is now Spring time which means we are gearing up for a busy year for the CIC. In January, a spec building committee was formed
to review and discuss how to market new business into Henry County. This committee is reviewing how to finance the project,
market the building and ultimately fill the building. In March the CIC held a membership appreciation event with an economic
development panel made up of local economic development partners within Henry County. The Tax Incentive Review Council also
met to review the County’s tax abatement agreements. Beginning in April, I will begin meeting with our local companies to ensure
that we are providing services to them and meeting their needs. Throughout the year, the CIC will continue to work on goals that
were established at the beginning of the year. These include workforce development/programs, spec building project and bringing
the ag community into our economic development portfolio. We will also continue to market Henry County to new businesses.
Other programs throughout the year will include roundtables with speakers discussing topics that matter to our companies and we
are also proud to once again co-host the Northwest Ohio Manufacturing Expo in October. I would also like to take this opportunity
to thank our members who contributed to the CIC and economic development for 2016!
Our tablets are updated and ready to get to work! We look forward to a productive 2016.

The 2016 Manufacturing Day Expo has been set to be held on Friday, October 14 th at Northwest State Community College! This is a
great opportunity for manufacturers to showcase their company and meet students interested in careers in the skilled
manufacturing industry. More details to come!

CIC Member Appreciation Event:
The CIC held their annual Member Appreciation event on Thursday, March 10th at The Armory in Napoleon. The event featured
dinner provided by Expressions Catering and beverages from Flatrock Brewery and Mead. This year the evening brought an
economic development discussion panel focusing on each speaker’s industry. Speakers on the panel were State Representative
Robert McColley, County Commission Tom VonDeylen, City Manager Monica Irelan, Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Joel
Miller, Automatic Feed Vice-President Peter Beck, Henry County Jobs & Family Services Director Shannon Jones and CIC Executive
Director Amanda Griffith. Each panel member gave a brief overview of their role and what they do to focus on the economic
development of Henry County. Guests of the event were able to address their issues or ask questions to the panel in an open
forum. We thank all of you who attended and made this event a success!

During the post-war housing boom of the early 1950s, the Mel Lanzer Company was set up to build 50 homes a year and became
one of the area’s most successful residential contractors. However, when the demand for housing declined in 1955, Mel was forced
to re-focus his efforts toward commercial projects. Through hard work, hard times, and a lot of determination, he laid the
foundation for what now is one of Northwest Ohio’s most respected commercial contracting firms.
Offering customers the same level of quality and attention to detail that residential customers had received, the Mel Lanzer
Company quickly became respected in the field of commercial construction. Over the past 50 years, they have been involved in
hundreds of building projects that are well known throughout the region.
Just as the Mel Lanzer Company adapted to market changes in the 1950s, they still are growing and changing today. Their seasoned,
innovative staff- now supported by the latest in design and construction technology-are position to meet the evolving needs of their
diverse customer base.
Although Mel Lanzer has retired, his influence is still felt as Chairman of the Board. His family members and their staff carry his
commitment to quality construction forward.

New Small Business Development Center Opens in Northwest Ohio:
A new Small Business Development Center opened on February 5th at Northwest State Community College, as a result of a
cooperative partnership with the U.S. Small Business Administration, the Ohio Development Services Agency, community college and
many economic development organizations throughout the region. Funded in part by the SBA, SBDCs help entrepreneurs realize the
dream of business ownership and help existing businesses remain competitive in a complex, ever-changing global marketplace.
“Small businesses in northwest Ohio now have a one-stop shop for assistance and guidance, thanks in part to the strong partnership
between the SBA and Ohio, as well as the steadfast support of local economic development institutions,” SBA’s Cleveland Deputy
District Director Jim Donato said. “Today is the start of new opportunity for entrepreneurship, small business growth and job
creation in this region.”
The Ohio Small Business Development Centers Network is the premier technical assistance program for the state’s small businesses.
This addition to the approximately 30 SBDC locations will serve the state’s northwest region, which has been without an SBDC for
nearly five years. Staffed by trained business advisors, the center will provide in-depth, one-on-one counseling for small businesses.
Additional services will include training, e-counseling, quality-based assessments, technical assistance, loan packaging guidance, and
information on federal, state and local regulations and programs. The current Ohio SBDC training calendar can be found here.
Today, federal, state and local partnerships contribute more than $10 million in cash and resources to support Ohio small business
development. Additional organizations involved in the new SBDC’s development include: Defiance County Economic Development,
Fulton County Economic Development Corporation, the Community Improvement Corporation of Henry County, Pauling County
Economic Development, Inc., and the Williams County Economic Development Corporation.

Four County Career Center Career & Job Fair:
The 2nd Annual Four County Career Center Job and Career Fair is
scheduled to take place at the Career Center on Thursday May 5th
from 9:30am to 2:30pm in the multi-purpose room located in the
front of the building. Four County Career Center has
approximately 450 graduating seniors from all four counties that
have relevant job skills in addition to knowing what it means to
come to work every day because of their strict attendance policy.
If you would like to meet these seniors, this is a great opportunity
