One of our favourite things is to squeeze around the table with family and friends and enjoy a great dinner. We designed this restaurant so that people who love good food could get together in a cozy space, share delicious dishes and celebrate the pleasure of friendship. At the corner of Markham and the continually gentrifying Dundas West corridor, the hungry traveler will glimpse BENT’s cherry-red blinking neon arrow, the familiar and reassuring signpost of a ‘50s diner, signalling that here, yes, is a welcoming urban oasis. The cosy gastro-boite, clad in white French subway tiles, charms immediately with the inspired touch of designers Brenda Bent and Karen Gable. The base of the hostess station is a giant terrarium that houses plastic figurines; high-backed wooden church benches line polished communal tables. Whimsical décor in every direction invites the diner’s eye to wander. Above the raw bar are vintage Japanese “Pachinko” arcade games; wall-mounted Letter Press boxes display collectible trinkets, tchotchkes and CrackerJack prizes amassed by Bent over several decades. Think Dr. Caligari’s Kabinett meets The Hoarders.
