Ramanuja, Chairman, BVB at the Bhavan (June 27) It was celebration time for the tinsel world. Not the release of a new film, nor an auspicious “Muhurat”. No, neither, but something certainly more worthy of jubilation. The function at the Khincha auditorium on June 27, was graced by Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, besides a number of noted personalities. Dr. B. Saroja Devi flanked with Dr. Anjali Devi, Smt. Jamuna Ramana Rao and Smt. Harini S.Rao. They are ; Dr. Anjali Devi, Jamuna Ramana Rao and Harini S. Rao. The annual award created by one of the most colourful cine artistes of the State, Dr B. Saroja Devi carries a purse of Rs.one lakh, a memento, and other adjuncts. It is given to a noted actress of the silver screen. But to mark its inaugural, three veteran actresses representing three different languages, namely Kannada, Tamil and Telugu were selected. Felicitating the three veteran heroines on their distinction and giving away the awards, Chief Minister Yeddyurappa admitted that he was a fan of film artistes of yesteryears. He complimented Dr. Saroja Devi for doing something that the government ought to have done. “They are renowned artistes and it is time something substantial is done Chief Minister Sri B.S. Praising Saroja Devi on her munificence, Jamuna who is a veteran of 25 years in the field, suggested that persons like her should join politics so as to render greater service to the industry. Harini Rao who joined Jamuna in praising the donor, announced that she would use the proceeds to help needy artistes. Another awardee Anjali said she proposed to augment the funds of the Chittoor Nagiah National Trust with the award money. Speaking on the occasion, Saroja Devi urged the State government to implement the plan of allotting sites to artistes in need. She said she was herself prepared to donate Rs.one crore to build houses for them, if the Government offered a matching grant. She explained that the award was DR. B. Ramanuja, Chairman, Bhavan Karnataka, who welcomed the gathering, thanked the State government for helping the Bhavan in a variety of ways, like the setting up a Bhavan's centre in Shivamogga. He was specially thankful to the Chief Minister for his help in the publication of the series on Gandhi Kruthi Sanchaya. Dr Mathoor Krishnamurti, Bhavan’s Director, thanked Dr. Saroja Devi and Sri Ambarish for selecting the Bhavan as the venue for this grand function. Dr. B. Suresh, Director, Programmes and Projects and Sri Shankara Gowda, Yoga teacher join. 6 CMYK Exploring the history of FOCUS ON GENDER BIAS IN WOMEN gender differentiation at home, work place and the community at large, was the focus in a workshop organized by the Bhavan on June 30. The one-day programme involving the women employees of the Bangalore Electricity Company (BESCOM). was initiated by Dr Rajeswari Raghu, Director, Education Initiative of the Bhavan. She outlined the approach of the training which proposed to cover the understanding of gender, history of gender bias etc. The women officers, mostly engineers who took part in the training evinced keen interest in the inter-action, which inter alia, delved into how women had been socialised to accept gender specific roles legally and socially in the Indian context. A sidelight of the inter-action was the experience some officers shared with their colleagues. While Sri Ram Bhat served as the resource person for the training, he received commendable assistance by Dr. Rajeshwari, Ms. Annie Dhanraj, lending her a helping hand. Sri Satyaprema Kumar, G.M. HRD, and Sri Ananthashayanam, Iyengar appreciate the efforts of the Bhavan in sponsoring such a useful programme. Before conclusion, each participant was presented with certificates of attendance in the interesting workshop. College of Communication and Management, Bangalore, has bagged the coveted “Business Communication School of the Year -2010” award for its sustained service in the field of public relations. This distinction is instituted by the Public Relations Council of India, New Delhi. The award comprises of a memento, medal and a certificate.
