Quick News - Tipp City Exempted Village Schools
Quick News December 2, 2013 Superintendent’s Message John P. Kronour, Ph.D. During the next two weeks, students and staff in each of our five buildings will participate in another emergency drill. Unlike previous drills, students will know in advance about this exercise and have on their coats. A high-energy simulation will occur that will require some students to flee under the direction of a teacher or administrator. Other students will go into lockdown. The purpose of this drill is to help students realize there is no blueprint for emergencies such as an armed gunman in a school. A true threat would require students to react to the danger and determine if they should stay or flee. This is not intended to instill unnecessary fear in our students. However, we cannot deny the reality of the world and must be prepared. The Talent of THS Band Members Sixteen Tippecanoe Band Students participated in the 2013 OMEA District XI Honor Band. Students prepared an audition that was then recorded and sent to be judged. The selected students prepared and rehearsed 5 pieces of music and then performed a concert the next day. Robert Bass, from Mason High School, conducted the band. Participating students were Bethany Callahan, Jordan Turnbill, Ben Donohoo, Luke Becker, Jenn Imel, Lacey Loges, Katie Paulsen, Erica Hartman, Thomas Gaier, Brooke Vissoc, Ethan Bigony, Josh Taylor, Tonnie Hicks, Kelly Whybrew, Jordan Wise and Colby Calk. (Also pictured are conductor Robert Bass and THS band directors, Steve Parks and Heather Marsh). Learning About Pilgrims, Indians, and the First Thanksgiving Students in the district gave thanks and learned about the first Thanksgiving. Kindergarten students feasted on kid-friendly foods that might have been available at the first Thanksgiving with the Pilgrims and Indians. It is obvious that these students in the class of Kari Hake thoroughly enjoyed their afternoon! Board of Education Roundtable The Board of Education wants to hear and learn from students so it sponsored a roundtable discussion with THS and TMS students. Topics included security and safety, bullying, and extracurricular activities. The BOE was so pleased with student input it wants to make this a regular commitment.
