I want to thank Joey Ketchum, pastor of Western Hills, Lane Important Legal Update Bits & Pieces "when do I start?" His point was that if you are not willing to work with the local Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Mexican, or French communities, why are you ready to go on a mission trip to China, Japan, India, Mexico, or France? Does this mean that you have to find a Chinese community before going on a mission trip to China? Not necessarily, but this is a good self-check before packing your bags. Summer is here, and many in our churches are going on mission trips. If you can’t go, will you help someone else to go and be blessed? Remember, you may be helping the leaders of tomorrow. Many of our churches are in full swing with VBS. This is one of the valuable times of the year to reach into your community to invite unchurched children to hear the gospel. Glenda Hofius As I write this month’s report we are beginning week three. We have hosted three groups in the first two weeks and seen thirty of our campers become believers in Jesus Christ. It is so wonderful when children and youth decide to trust in Jesus and begin their lives on the firm foundation provided by our Lord. We are hosting Broadmoor Baptist Church Children’s Camp this week. There will be around two hundred and twenty coming in today. This will be the biggest group our summer staff has served. They are doing a great job this summer and I know they will handle this larger group. We will have even larger groups as we host our NLBA Kidz Kamp and Fuego. Speaking of summer staff, our guys dug a trench one hundred and twenty feet long and about two feet deep to put in water and drain pipes for a sink in the new Snack Shack. However, they decided they would not include this information on their resume, as they hope NEVER to have to do that ever again! They truly went the extra mile and made life much easier for our girls to make slushies for the kids. Way Camp Bethany 318/938.1221 to go guys! All of our staff works hard, every day, all Fax:318/938.1220 www.campbethany.co summer, so please continue to pray for us!!! We are blessed at Northwest Association to have one of the best counselors in our area to assist our churches in the ministry of Christian counseling. Pray for Amy Butler and the state-wide ministry of Granberry Counseling as she divides her time between Shreveport and Minden. Mike Johnson, of Freedom Guard, and a LA State Representative, is working hard for us. If you believe in America’s founding principles and the virtures of faith, family, fiscal responsibility, personal liberty, the rule of law and a strong national defense, you believe in what Mike is doing. Let’s pray for him. First Baptist Shreveport is doing an excellent job of utilizing social media to reach into the community. A recent community event saw 11,000 hits on their church’s FaceBook page and 2,000 were in attendance. Another event is planned for July 3rd. The BCM staff is enjoying the summer months, but we are busy preparing for our upcoming academic year. We are excited about some great opportunities for ministry, including a coffee shop, more international ministry, and a greater presence on all of our campuses. We would really like for you and your church to be involved. Here are some ways your church can help the BCM prepare for the upcoming semester: ASSOCIATION UPCOMING DATES Lend a hand around the Center. We are working on several projects, both ministry-related and centerrelated. Whether you can do minor construction or data entry, we can use you for a couple of hours, or more. Just let us know when you’re available. August 13 Rally the cooks. Provide some FOOD! The BCM serves a lot of grub in any given week, and we rely heavily on church groups and volunteers to bring lunches to our campuses. Commit to bring a lunch in the fall. This is a vital part of our ministry! Connect us with a student you know. We would love for you to introduce us to any students you know who will be attending a local campus this year. Send us their contact info and we will connect with them. Pray that students will be drawn to Christ. By far, we get the most interactions with students in the first 3 weeks of classes. Our impact will be the greatest when we all are praying for God to move among our college students. We need some prayer warriors! y d d o ey D r ● Jam r For more info, contact me or our Directo ● BCM staff at the BCM. John Anderson Summer is in full force now and many mission groups will not be meeting until the Dr. Jeff Iorg , President of Golden Gate fall. I Look forward to seeing you August 2 at Woodridge Baptist Church, 6:00 pm. Compassion Ministries exciting. What is also exciting is the diversity of ages at the WMU meeting and the SBC Annual Meeting. The WMU Annual Celebration was incredible. Travis Kerns shared about their work in Utah, where he said 98% of the population is lost. Utah ranks almost at the top in suicide and depression, and is at the top in antidepressant prescriptions, pornography downloads and elective plastic surgery. That should sadden us deeply. Travis's enthusiasm for his family's call to minister in Utah is contagious. Pray for him and the residents of Utah. C ommu ni t y Minis tri es Rhonda Berry In a world of constant change, we can still see Southern Baptists’ love for missions. The 2015 Lottie Moon Christmas Offering reached $165.8 million dollars, the highest since the offering began in1888. Wanda Lee, retiring Executive Director of WMU, says it best, “With the inception of the first offering for international missions in 1888, Southern Baptists were challenged to pray and give sacrificially so those who had not heard the gospel might have that opportunity.” When Lottie Moon saw the depth of lostness in China and pleaded for help, churches responded with increased giving and prayer support. This year, we are grateful Southern Baptists have responded once again at a critical time when increased resources are needed for our international outreach. How thankful we are for every person who gave and prayed, proving together we can accomplish more than any one church or individual. Writing this from the SBC Convention in St. Louis, I can tell you that we Baptists travel in herds! In the last 3 years, 19 new Southern Baptist churches have been started in the Salt Lake Valley. Last year 187 professions of faith were recorded, and 110 people have been baptized. Partnerships have already begun between Northwest Association churches and several churches in Salt Lake City.
