JULY 2015 LEGION NEWS
Morris Snuggerud Post 284
Welcome Everyone!
June was big month. We installed the new officers and received an All Time High Membership Award from the National
Commander. We are at a critical point in our organization’s life and we need active members. Not every weekend, not
even every month but pick an event and take ownership of it. There are lots of jobs to do, order supplies, set-up an event,
Memorial Day, Christmas Party, Membership Dinner, fund raising or just general maintenance around the hall.
Memorial Day, Monday May 25th Our keynote speaker was Brigadier General George R. Thompson Jr., Commander
86th Training Division (Operations). The parade was at 0930 with the ceremony following at the Halfway Creek Park
pavilion. There was a luncheon and fellowship following the ceremony in the Legion Hall (i.e. chow and stories). Cemetery
flags arrived and were put out by our teams of volunteers. (P.S. bring back your cemetery books if you didn’t already do so)
The guys set up the commemorative cemetery Sunday and took it down Monday afternoon. Thank you, to everyone that
participated. It was an excellent event. The BSA and GSA for their help with ceremony.
Our Regular Membership Meetings are at 7 P.M. the second Tuesday of the Month with a light lunch served after the
meeting. Come and get involved.
*** Kornfest committee will meet at 7 P.M. on 23 June, and 28 July. Planning is underway and the website has the
Committee leaders posted on it. Workers’ Schedules are due by the June Meeting. There’s more information coming on the
details. We need to confirm the line-ups of our supporting organizations and volunteers now. I am looking forward to another
successful year.
Service Officer, Francis Brown, has been providing fruit baskets to our local veterans for many years now. He is able to do
this by being informed by people like you. If you know of someone that is recovering please let us know by contacting him or
the Legion Hall, 608-526-4444. The American Legion also has a loan program for home care equipment, currently we are out
of walking canes. If you have one laying around the house and would care to donate it. Please just drop it off at the Hall and
we’ll take care of it.
JULY 2015 AUXILIARY NEWS
Greetings Ladies,
I hope everyone is enjoying their summer.
We held our elections in May and installed new officers in June. The New Officers are follows:
President – Tammy Taylor
Treasurer – Ann Stasiak
Chaplain – Kelli Seeforth
Historian – Pat Niedercorn
I would like to thank everyone who held office the past two years for all their hard work and dedication. We truly could not do
everything that we do without all of you.
Kornfest is around the corner and coming up faster than we think. If you are available to work in the Chicken Tent please let me
know. You can reach me at 608-317-2379. I will be making calls to fill the available times. Your volunteerism is a crucial part of our unit
continuing to create funds to help our soldiers and families.
The next Blood Drive is August 28th from Noon to 5pm.
Pat Smith will be the Honored at the Past Presidents Luncheon during State Convention on July 18. Congratulations Pat.
September will be our yearly membership dinner. Please keep watching for information on this event. We had a great time last year
and are hoping to have even more join us this year.
Don’t forget your 2015 Membership dues. You can send them to Mary Clements or drop them off at the Legion. Senior Membership
is $22.00 and Junior Membership is $3.50.
$5.00 drawing winner – Pat Niedercorn
Our next meeting is July 21st . Come join us for our Picnic at 6pm. It was so wonderful to have everyone at last meeting. We will be
having coffee and treats at our future meetings, so come on out for a little social time.
As always Thank You to all of our Soldiers, Veterans, and Families for their many sacrifices they endure to keep us free.
Tammy Taylor - President
Respectfully
M. Bryan Taylor
Commander
