PILATES EDUCATION LAB Welcome and Thank you for your interest in our program. Our mission at Pilates Education Lab is to produce stellar instructors who are passionately committed to the vigorous and full body movement experience of the Classical Pilates Method, and are also masterful at adapting movement for each individual client in their present state of health. We believe that begins with a strong foundation of understanding anatomy, biomechanics, movement patterning and fundamental movement skills. Our in depth training prepares our graduates to develop their analytical, intuitive and physical teaching skills so they can succeed in any teaching environment. Our goal is to create a supportive, safe and inspired learning environment that encourages questions, exploration and practice. 1587 SANCHEZ STREET, SAN FRANCISCO, CA 94131 • 415.648.4911 • INFO@PILATESEDUCATION LAB.COM . BIOS CAROL LEMAITRE Carol LeMaitre was first introduced to Pilates the usual way, as a dancer with a back injury. She made her way to St. Francis Hospital’s Dance Medicine Department, the very first hospital in the world to offer Pilates as part of a rehab program. Carol was so impressed with Pilates’ ability to heal her body that she was inspired to become a teacher, beginning her studies with Master Teachers Michelle Larsson and Jennifer Stacey. She finished her formal training with Ellie Herman in 1999. In 2000, Carol opened Sanchez Street Studios as a one-woman operation while living upstairs with her husband and two sons. From its humble beginning, Sanchez Street Studios has grown to encompass the entire building, with six trainers offering classes and private sessions, seven days a week. Feeling that she needed more training to work with the various clients that were coming in the door, Carol studied The Janda Method of Neuromuscular Re- education. She has also been greatly inspired by her studies with Eric Franklin, Kathleen Stanford Grant, Cara Reeser, Mary Bowen, Irene Dowd and the entire crew at The Pilates Center of Boulder. Today Carol is certified by the Pilates Method Alliance, received her Masters from the Pilates Center of Boulder and is a certified MELT Hand and Foot Instructor. Her audio workout CDs, available on iTunes, have been featured in Pilates Style magazine. In 2005, Carol approached Sharon Gallagher and proposed the idea of designing a teacher training program that would teach the Classical Repertoire and that would include the fusion of many methods to teach the fundamental skills needed to foster dramatic change. Together they have taught and mentored a talented group of students that have completed the program and gone on to become amazing teachers. 1587 Sanchez Street, San Francisco, CA 94131 • 415.648.4911 • info@pilateseducationlab.com BIOS SHARON GALLAGHER-RIVERA Sharon Gallagher-Rivera was an avid gymnast and athlete as a child, and first studied dance formally at USF. After graduating in 1992 with a BA in Politics and a Performing Arts minor, she dove headlong into a career in dance, over the years performing with Sacrosanct Dance, Passionflower Project and Printz Dance Project. The intense physical training led to chronic pain. Physical therapy brought temporary relief but did not solve underlying causes. Working in the office of Edie Murphy, Physical Therapist and Aston Patterner, first sparked her awareness of Pilates, Feldenkrais, Aston Patterning and Rolfing. Sharon also worked with Stephen Coleman, L.Ac. who alleviated her pain and later became her teacher and mentor in bodywork and massage techniques in 2005 (combining Lauren Berry work, Rolfing, Feldenkreis manual work and NMR). She began studying Pilates with Ellie Herman, entering the Teacher Training program in 1998, and concurrently studied the Neuro-Muscular Re-education work of Vladimir Janda, MD from Jayne Edwards. Wanting to advance her studies, she attended a Teacher Training Intensive through the Pilates Center of Boulder in 2000 and also began ongoing training with Jennifer Stacey, M.S. that same year. Sharon was sold on the power of the Pilates method. Over the years, Sharon has been fortunate to study with many incredible teachers and mentors including Pilates Elders and Master Instructors in Pilates, Dance, Somatics, Bodywork and Yoga. Sharon became the Head Trainer at the Ellie Herman Studio in SF in 2003 and mentored many teachers and clients there through 2010. In 2006, Sharon and Carol LeMaitre developed the Sanchez Street Pilates Teacher Training Program (now Pilates Education Lab) with the goal of preparing teachers who know the Classical work and also have the skills to adapt exercises for anyone. Lululemon selected her as an Ambassador for 2010-2011, and during that year, Sharon completed a Personal Trainer Bridge Program through PTA Global. In 2012, she graduated from the Masters Program through the Pilates Center of Boulder also became a continued... 1587 SANCHEZ STREET, SAN FRANCISCO, CA 94131 • 415.648.4911 • INFO@PILATESEDUCATION LAB.COM . Hand and Foot Instructor for the MELT method. She also had the great honor of being selected as the “Next Pilates Anytime Instructor 2012”, which won her a workout story in Pilates Style Magazine (Jan 2013) and the opportunity to become an instructor on the Pilates Anytime website. Sharon is a PMA Certified instructor and has modeled for Ellie Herman’s books, Pilates for Dummies and Pilates Wunda Chair as well as Ellie’s DVD of Advanced Matwork. She also appears in Jordan Matter’s book, Dancer’s Among Us. Sharon currently owns Internal Fire Pilates in Mill Valley, Co-owns Pilates Education Lab. Having been an avid dancer, performer, and practitioner of Yoga for over 20 years, Sharon finds balance and inspiration by including hikes with her new son Silas, her dog Zoe, and by maintaining a regular Pilates, dance and Yoga practice. 1587 SANCHEZ STREET, SAN FRANCISCO, CA 94131 • 415.648.4911 • INFO@PILATESEDUCATION LAB.COM .
