SOLUTIONS FOR PROTECTION
AGAINST EMIs
Customer needs
Surface warships need to be protected against
electromagnetic impulses in order to avoid their
transition through vessel structures. Electromagnetic
protection aims to place the crew cabin into an
electrically neutral environment.

Saint-Gobain Sully’s Solution
Saint-Gobain Sully has developed technology to enable
high-performance glass to avoid the transition of EMIs
through transparencies.
1. EMI Navy Coating
An ultra-thin and transparent metallic (or conductive
oxide) coating is used to create a protective layer on
the glass.
Types of metallic coatings depend on the types of
threats defined by the customer, i.e. electromagnetic
protection in dB depends on the electrical/magnetic
frequencies.

Advantages
2. Connection System
A metallic (or conductive oxide) coating is linked to the
frame and the frame is well connected to the surface
warship structure.
• With metallic and Transparent Conductive Oxide/
TCO coating from Saint-Gobain Sully, there is no
grid on the glass.
If the window with EMI protection is properly mounted
on the vessel structure, maximum efficiency is
provided. Saint-Gobain Sully provides the mounting
service.
• Excellent visibility and a high level of light
transmittance.
• Compatible with night vision goggles.
Application
The minimum attenuation level achieved is 99%.
