SAINT-GOBAIN SULLY WINDSHIELD SOLUTIONS FOR VISIBILITY, SOLAR AND ACOUSTIC COMFORT Customer Needs For safety and drivers’ comfort, a train driver needs to have good perception of the environment, i.e. good visibility and good perception of colours in all climatic conditions as well as acoustic comfort. © Saint-Gobain Sully S aint-Gobain Sully’s Solution In order to achieve the best comfort level for the driver, Saint-Gobain Sully unifies following technologies: 1. Chemical treatment to obtain the thinnest glass With the chemical treatment resistance of glass increases giving the possibility to use the thinner glass and hence increase the visibility. The process of chemical reinforcement is developed by Saint Gobain and avoids the mechanical treatment on the glass surface resulting in no deformation and no rolls, which are characteristic to other reinforcement technologies. 3. Heating system for good visibility Airplex® and Indiex®, two systems developed by SaintGobain, enable homogeneous heating on the entire windshield surface. Both of them avoid the haze effect on glass. Either Airplex® - the heating system with wires - or Indiex® - coating on the glass - is used depending on the glass composition and Customer needs. 1. Special bending process to avoid optical distortion 2. Indiex® Printing Glass Bus bar PVB Coating Bending is done using a special oven which heats the glass above its transition temperature. Finite Elements Analysis - a simulation tool developed by Saint-Gobain is used to forecast the complexity of shape and define the right tool with the right temperature level. © Saint-Gobain Sully 4. Sun protection For visibility comfort in sunny conditions, a special layer is embedded in the glass composition on the top side of the windshield to protect the driver from direct sun exposure. WINDSHIELD SAINT-GOBAIN SULLY SOLUTIONS FOR VISIBILITY, SOLAR AND ACOUSTIC COMFORT Application Advantages • Windshields meet all standards requirements for visibility (luminous board and daylight board, shadowgraph, optical distortion per various standards, depending on the market). • De-icing and de-misting performed in a very short period of time. • Windows are compliant with acoustic requirements. • The Saint-Gobain Group is a large group that benefits from sharing of experiences among its members. • In-house testing facilities. • No optical distortion even for highly curved shapes and high mounted angles. © Alstom Transport / F.Susset SAINT-GOBAIN SULLY 16, route d’Isdes, 45600 Sully-sur-Loire, France Tel: +33 2 38 37 30 00 Fax: +33 2 38 37 31 92 SICURGLASS SUD s.r.l.
