In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells his disciples that if they wish to
follow him they must deny themselves and take up his cross
daily. In Jesus’ time, the cross was not something nice or
cool that one could hang on the wall or around one’s neck.
It was an instrument of torture and execution. His point:
We are to lay down our lives and let him take control. Good
stewards hand over their lives to Jesus no matter the cost.
They realize that all they take with them into the next life is
their relationship with Christ Jesus.

TWELFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Saint Vincent’s Corner
In the Gospel today, Jesus tells us that “whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for
my sake will save it.”
This week, know that you will bring hope to the poor by your generous gift to the Society of St. Vincent de
Paul.
The Pro-Life Place
The Catechism teaches that "by sending his only Son and the Spirit of Love in the fullness of time, God has
revealed his innermost secret: God himself is an eternal exchange of love, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and he
has destined us to share in that exchange" (221) through our acceptance and obedience to his divine plan for life,
love, marriage, and family. The design of Male and Female is a pre-ordained, sacred, complementarity that
reflects the love and life of the Blessed Trinity.
Crisis Pregnancy? Suffering from an abortion? Call 1-877-WeCare2. We want to help YOU! Please pray
for those on death row and the families of the victims and those convicted of crimes. "I have set before
you life and death…choose life, that you and your descendants may live!" (Dt. 31:19)

Society will become more peaceful and loving to
the degree that we, as individuals embrace these
virtues. We become better persons as we continue
to discover the gift of being a child of God and
giving of ourselves to others. What time do you set
aside to improve yourself emotionally, physically
and spiritually? In what ways do you give of your
time to the care and needs of others?
espiritualmente? ¿De qué maneras da su tiempo
para el cuidado y las necesidades de los demás?

To proclaim Jesus as Messiah is to recognize
Him as God’s anointed; the one who saves us
from sin and death, from despair and loneliness.
It also means entering into the paradox of the
cross with him: salvation from sin and death is
through death; salvation from loneliness and
despair is through submission, denial and loss.
To be one with Christ means being willing to
accept the cross – dying to self for others, even
for our enemies.
Are we willing to do this?
Conclusion of the Fortnight for Freedom…will take place on July 4 at noon at the church with
the pealing of the church bells followed by patriotic church bell music.
...and in Temple, TX—A Mass by Bishop Vasquez for the protection of Religious Liberty. See
