He doesn’t seek Jesus’ friendship. And yet the unknown woman who appears is quite eager to be where Jesus is and to show him her tremendous gratitude. She does some extraordinary things: She gets down by Jesus’ feet, and, weeping, she wets his feet with her tears and wipes them with her hair! She even kisses his feet and anoints them with some perfumed oil. The woman lavishes her love and appreciation for Jesus. Christian stewards show their love for Jesus in tangible ways every day. Others don’t really seek his friendship. Who are we more apt to be like in this Gospel story, the Pharisee or the grateful woman? ELEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Saint Vincent’s Corner In the Gospel we see how Jesus was moved with pity and said to the widow, “Do not cry,” and the people knew that “God had visited his people.” When you hear the cries of the poor and reach out to help them, deep in their hearts the poor know that “God has visited them.” The Pro-Life Place As we hear the Gospel today, we realize that sometimes we are like Simon as it’s far easier to see what is wrong in another than it is to see what is wrong in ourselves. But Jesus, who accepts the poor woman without judging or blaming her, shows us what Christian love is all about. Through your almsgiving you are performing a good work; far greater than you think. The coins placed in the St. Vincent de Paul collection bring Christ love and compassion to the poor. SACRED HEART COMMUNITY CLINIC HOURS: Walk-Ins, Tues. & Thurs., 5 p.m.—8 p.m.; Registrations, Mon. & Fri., 9 a.m.-noon ELEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME EVENTS IN THE PARISH/ EVENTOS EN LA PARROQUIA YEAR OF FAITH/ AÑO DE LA FE There is a growing connection among people today because of social media and technology. Human relationships also need time to communicate face to face. God desires all people to become a community, to be present to one another, face to face as well as electronically. In what ways do you give quality time to the important relationships in your life? How do you use social media and technology to share your faith? CATHOLIC SOCIAL TEACHING Jesuit Father Vincent Donovan was a missionary to the Masai in Africa and wrote about his experience in proclaiming the Gospel. One of his insights was the centrality of forgiveness in Christian doctrine. The Scripture readings today speak of God’s willingness to forgive both the strong and mighty as well as the least and most lowly. God forgives freely and lavishly and desires to reconcile all. Do we seek God’s forgiving love? Do we forgive others as we have been forgiven? Are we God’s ambassadors of reconciliation to those in need of love, mercy and compassion? YEAR OF FAITH—CATHOLIC SPEAKER SERIES Fr. Dean Wilhelm - Lumen Gentium: The Church/Who is saved? - June 23 All are invited to the final presentation of the Year of Faith Catholic Speaker Series, featuring a presentation by Fr.
