May 1, 2011 ŚWIĘTA JADWIGA SANTA EDUVIGES 2226 NORTH HOYNE AVENUE • CHICAGO, IL 60647 St. Hedwig, pray for us. Św. Jadwigo, módl się za nami. Santa Eduviges, ruega por nosotros. ARCHDIOCESE OF CHICAGO Administered by the Resurrection Fathers and Brothers Celebrating 122 years in the Bucktown Community. NOTES AND EVENTS 2 Weekly Reflections Dear Parishioners, Friends and Guests of Saint Hedwig's Parish, The message and devotion to Jesus as The Divine Mercy is based on the writings of Saint Faustina Kowalska, an uneducated Polish nun who, in obedience to her spiritual director, wrote a diary of about 600 pages recording the revelations she received about God’s mercy. Even before her death in 1938, the devotion to The Divine Mercy had begun to spread. READINGS FOR THE WEEK OF May 1 - 8, 2011 Sunday: The message of mercy is that God loves us — all of us — no matter how great our sins. He wants us to recognize that His mercy is greater than our sins, so that we will call upon Him with trust, receive His mercy, and let it flow through us to others. Thus, all will come to share His joy. It is a message we can call to mind simply by remembering ABC Monday: A — Ask for His Mercy. God wants us to approach Him in prayer constantly, repenting of our sins and asking Him to pour His mercy out upon us and upon the whole world. B — Be merciful. God wants us to receive His mercy and let it flow through us to others. He wants us to extend love and forgiveness to others just as He does to us. C — Completely trust in Jesus. God wants us to know that the graces of His mercy are dependent upon our trust. The more we trust in Jesus, the more we will receive. Thursday: Living the Message of Mercy The devotional practices revealed through Saint Faustina were given to us as "vessels of mercy" through which God's love can be poured out upon the world, but they are not sufficient unto themselves. It's not enough for us to hang The Divine Mercy image in our homes, pray the Chaplet every day at three o'clock, and receive Holy Communion on the first Sunday after Easter. We also have to show mercy to our neighbors. Putting mercy into action is not an option of the Divine Mercy Devotion; it's a requirement! Tuesday: Wednesday: Friday: Saturday: Next Sunday: Acts 2:42-47/ 1 Pt 1:3-9/ Jn 20:19-31 Acts 4:23-31/ Jn 3:1-8 1 Cor 15:1-8/ Jn 14:6-14 Acts 5:17-26/ Jn 3:16-21 Acts 5:27-33/ Jn 3:31-36 Acts 5:34-42/ Jn 6:1-15 Acts 6:1-7/ Jn 6:16-21 Acts 2:14, 22-33/ 1 Pt 1:17-21/ Lk 24:13-35 BLESSED JOHN PAUL II, POPE O God, who are rich in mercy and who willed that the blessed John Paul the Second should preside as Pope over your universal Church, grant, we pray, that instructed by his teaching, we may open our hearts to the saving grace of Christ, the sole Redeemer of mankind. Who lives and reigns. WOMEN'S CENTER FLOWER SALE The Women’s Center will be having a Mothers Day Flower sale here at St. Hedwig On Saturday, May 7 and Sunday, May 8,. Umiłowani Bracia i Siostry! Powtarzam dzisiaj te proste i szczere słowa św. Faustyny, by wraz z nią i z wami wszystkimi wielbić niepojętą i niezgłębioną tajemnicę Bożego miłosierdzia. Bracia i siostry!
