Vintage Redlands is an annual fundraiser for Citrograph Foundation, which awards scholarships to University
of Redlands students pursuing an education in music, business, or graphic design. The event is a relaxing,

wineries, or breweries to offer a selection of beverages and appetizers to participants, and entertainers perform

Presidents’ Message
Dear Delta Sisters,
The past year for Delta has been filled with excitement and fun
memories! Highlights included:
• Active and evolving Alumnae Chapters – although we bid farewell
to Omicron, we welcomed the new Phi Chapter in Arizona, with
other geographical areas exploring options
• The breathtaking 104th Birthday Luncheon sponsored by the
Omega Alumnae Chapter and Alpha’s prosperous silent auction and
raffle
• Our fourth annual “Cuca’s and Coronas” event at Homecoming
• The Mother-Daughter Tea at the Alumni House where seniors
received their traditional recipe boxes
• Delta was honored last year by CAB (Club Advisory Board) with an “Outstanding Alumni Association
Service” award

We are so lucky and excited to serve our amazing sorority as Executive Council Co-Presidents! We are
motivated by the many active alumnae we have and cannot wait to get even more sisters of all ages involved in
the coming year. We truly believe that a solid alumnae network helps to perpetuate Delta’s being the largest
sorority at Redlands, with members who shine academically and in their many campus and community
involvements. Let’s continue to grow our alumnae involvement to keep Delta as strong as ever as we celebrate
105 years of sisterhood!

It’s time to pay your Delta Alumnae Dues! Dues
are $30 per year and are used to support activities for
alumnae as well as support the collegiate chapter on
campus with the annual Mother/Daughter Tea, the
Advisor Breakfast for the New Members in the Fall,
and leadership training with the Advisors. Alumnae
funds can provide dues support for intitiated members
who demonstrate financial need on a one-time basis.
Additional donations are always welcome and can
be designated for the Advisor’s support of the initiated
members, the named awards, in addition to the Delta
House Fund or the Anita Gordon Hentschke Endowed
Scholarship Fund faciitated through the University.
Dues can be paid easily online through our secure

President’s Report
My dear sisters,
My name is Jackie Starks, and
I am the Spring 2015 president of
the active circle of our wonderful
sisterhood. I am extremely honored
to have been elected and am
excited to lead Delta into another
successful semester! Delta has been
very busy, and I have so much
exciting news to share with you.
As our fall semester’s focus was
on welcoming new sisters, and we
have been at capacity both this
spring and last, we have decided
not to participate in the optional
spring rush, and focus our efforts
on maintenance within our circle
and expanding our bonds with each
other. Last spring we accomplished
great things. At the CAB awards
last April, we received the
Outstanding Co-sponsored Event
of the Year award for “Embrace
Yourself Week,” Delta’s annual
week-long educational series on
body image and acceptance of
self. We were particularly proud to
receive the Outstanding Alumni
Association Service Award. At the
Greek Awards later that month, we
accepted an award for Excellence in
Philanthropy. As you can probably
tell, service was a primary focus.
We co-sponsored the first annual
University of Redlands Relay for
Life through our philanthropy,
the Key to the Cure Club, and had
three teams participate, the most
of any other group on campus.
We had a great time giving back
to others, and grew closer to each
other while doing it.
In the Fall, we took 25
beautiful new members. They
Deltas participate in the Big Buddies Kickball Tournament.
are truly perfect in every way.
They have expanded our circle in
numbers and in involvement and
enthusiasm. We hit the jackpot!
We also are proud to say that we
took the largest class in the Fall
of any organization. We owe a lot
to our rush chairs Gianna and
Aubrey. They did an amazing
job. A shout out is also in order
for our fall president Grace Trilla
and new member educator Joline
Zelenski, who guided these girls
to success and taught them what it
truly means to be a sister. Taking
this large of a class was a new
experience for all of us, but we
stuck together, were there for each
other, and had a truly memorable
semester.
This spring we have hit the
ground running and already have
achieved our first noteworthy
accomplishment. For the first time
in, well, a very long time, the ladies
of Delta won lip sync, and brought
Das Boot back to our house! Our
lip sync chairs Noelle Medina and
Alyssa Miller worked tirelessly,
and we had an amazing amount
of participation from our active
circle. Needless to say, we were
extremely excited. We plan to focus
on many of the same things this
spring as we did last. We already
have our Relay teams going, and
there will be information coming
soon on how to support our fight
against cancer. We have done some
major sister bonding already in
the short time we have been back,
including tie-dyeing our scream
night shirts together, and watching
The Bachelor together on Monday
nights at the house. We have big
goals for this semester and I know
that we will accomplish them
all. Thank you so much for your
continued support!

Report
Having just completed my first
semester as University Advisor,
I have to say it is a pleasure to be
associated with Delta Kappa Psi.
Delta alumnae should be proud of
the current members who continue
to maintain an overall GPA
significantly above the minimum
required of Greek organizations
by the University. The sorority’s
overall GPA for Spring 2014 was
3.36.

A relatively new practice is to
give those with the highest GPAs
a traditional Delta pin to wear the
following semester. The pins are
available due to the generosity of
alumnae who have donated their
pins back to the sorority for current
members to enjoy.
Unfortunately, Fall 2014 grade
information was not available when
the Doings went to press, but I am
confident Deltas will continue to
shine academically once it is!

Alumnae Advisors’ Report
In case you missed the
announcement in the Fall 2014
Newsletter, the use of the term
“Patroness” has been discontinued
in favor of “Alumnae Advisor”
in an attempt to stay current
and consistent within the Greek
community at Redlands. The term
“Patroness” implies a financial
contribution is required to serve in
this capacity, which is not the case.
In addition to representing
Delta at Greek Advisory Council
meetings sponsored by the
University, the Alumnae Advisors
meet formally with the Initiated
Member Executive Team each
semester. They attend the Presents
Dinner, host the New Member
Breakfast held in the University
Club on campus, and treat New
Members to coffee or a meal as part
of the New Member Process. Local
Alumnae Advisors enjoyed getting
to know the 25 New Members this
fall, which included several with
Delta family connections.
The Alumnae Advisory team is
honored to serve in this capacity
in Delta’s 105th year, and we are
particularly proud of Janet Grenda
who was honored as Outstanding
Patroness by the Greek Community

Delta House Update
The biggest news for the Delta
House this year is that we have a
beautiful new patio area in the back
yard! The non-functioning, ancient
brick fireplace and barbeque in the
middle of the patio area, as well as
the uneven and broken concrete,
had made entertaining difficult, so
we requested that these items be
removed. The University was very
accommodating with our request
and started work shortly after
school started. After removing
the barbeque and fireplace, we
replaced most of the concrete in
the backyard, so now we have
a nice open and safe place to
entertain. This was made possible
by the generosity of Delta alumnae
donations and the University’s
Facilities Department.
We all enjoyed the remodeled
patio and yard at Homecoming in
October 2014, and the initiated
members are looking for ways
to make further improvements,
including painting the block walls
around the south and east sides
and fixing the seating along the
southeast corner. As always, this
can only be accomplished with the
support of the Delta alumnae.
Initiated members living in
the house include Emily Sheldon
(House Chair), Saylor Schroff, and
Natalie Laskowicz. We thank these
women for their willingness to
share their “home” with up to 75
Initiated Members and their work
to ensure the Delta House remains
the best on campus!

Redlands Greek Community News
What was “Fall Recruitment” last year is now back to “Rush” – the term we all recall, hopefully fondly!
Approximately 200 women were a part of the Fall Rush process in 2014, and Deltas added 25 amazing women
to the sorority. Delta, with 72 current members, is one of only two sororities who decided to follow the intent to
move to a “one Rush” system, allowing time for professional growth opportunities, enhanced community service,
and sisterhood bonding activities in the Spring rather than taking another class.
Christy Clinton now serves as Director of Greek Life in the Student Leadership and Involvement Center.
The Greek Advisory Council (the organization that replaced Alumni for Greeks) continues to get good
representation at its meetings from those who advise a Greek organization – alumni as well as faculty members
and administrators. The group is coordinated by Christy Clinton and led by Chris Walker, retired faculty
member and former Kappa Sigma Sigma patron.
This working group of those who advise Greek organizations comes together bi-monthly to discuss, and help
fellow organizations address, issues they are currently facing as well as larger issues within the Greek community
as a whole. The thinking continues to be that by sharing “best practices” as well as comparing notes on ways
organizations have dealt with challenging situations effectively, not only individual organizations but the Greek
community overall will be stronger.
As you might imagine, on most topics discussed, the Delta “train” is “much further down the tracks” than
other Greek organizations – something we should all take pride in.

Kelly Feeney
Delta Woman of the Year
We are very proud to announce our Delta Woman of the Year, Kelly Mullen Feeney!
Kelly pledged in the Fall of 1988 as part of the Savage 16. Some of the positions she
held included Pledge Captain and Pledge Mom. She was also Co-President of Yeomen,
the community service organization, during her sophomore year. She graduated in
1990 with a degree in Psychology. As an Alum, Kelly has continued her involvement
in the sorority. She has served as Orange County’s Kappa President, Delta Executive
Council President, and currently serves as Kappa Co-President. She has played a major
part in past birthday luncheons, including those at Disneyland and Newport Beach, as
well as the Centennial luncheon. She has worked at the Disneyland Resort in Fairytale
Weddings and currently works in Resort Sales. Kelly is originally from Walterfield,
Oregon. She now lives in Buena Park with her husband, Dan, and their three dogs. She and Dan just celebrated
their 16th wedding anniversary. Kelly’s Delta Sisters have said this about her-- “She taught me that a leader isn’t
always the most assertive or necessarily the one who always takes charge, but the person who brings people
together and gets the job done!” “She does things for others or may help a situation without telling anyone she
did them. It’s just who she is.” Congratulations to our 2014 Delta Woman of the Year – Kelly Feeney!
Joline Zelinsky
Delta Girl of the Year
The 2014 Delta Girl of the Year award was presented during Homecoming weekend to
Joline Zelinski! Joline went through the new member process in the Spring of 2012, and
since then, she has served as Song Chair, Executive Treasurer, Presents Chair, and New
Member Educator.
On campus, she has served as an Orientation Mentor and has done community
service at Redlands Family Services. She also spent a semester abroad in Salzburg,
Austria in the fall of 2013.
Joline is from Pasadena, California, and is majoring in liberal studies and sociology/
anthropology. Her future plans are to attend graduate school and one day become a
teacher.
One of Joline’s Delta sisters said this about her: “Her best quality is that she is a true and loyal sister who
always looks out for the people she loves; and she does everything for the betterment of the sorority and her
sisters. She is hard-working and has such a passion for life!!” Congratulations, Joline!

Awards remember alumnae sisters, honor active Deltas
The Executive Council of the
Delta Kappa Psi Alumnae debuted
two annual awards for Delta seniors
at the 90th Birthday Luncheon in
May 2000: The Lois Hentschke
Scholton Leadership Award and
the Barbie Powers Allen Award for
Delta Enthusiasm. Each recipient
receives a monetary award and a
framed certificate, and her name is
engraved on a plaque that hangs in
the Delta House.
The Lois Hentschke Scholton
Leadership Award honors Lois for
her strong leadership in the Delta
Kappa Psi sorority, at the University
of Redlands, and in her community
by honoring a Delta senior in
her name who demonstrates
outstanding leadership qualities.
Lois was instrumental in the
formation of the Delta Kappa
Psi Alumnae Executive Council
and served as its first president in
1948. She was a Delta patroness
for many years, served as president
Barbie Powers Allen
of the Alpha Alumnae Chapter,
and was named Delta Woman of
the Year in 1972. At the University
of Redlands, she served on the
Alumni Board of Directors,
headed reunion committees, was
a Town and Gown member, and
received the University of Redlands
Distinguished Service Award in
1996. In her community, she
served as president for numerous
organizations, including the
United Way, Breakfast Club, Junior
Women of the Contemporary
Club, PTA, Redlands Women’s
Golf Association, American Heart
Association and the Redlands
Community Hospital corporate
board. She chaired committees
at her church and taught Sunday
school. Lois passed away in 1999.
The Barbie Powers Allen
Enthusiasm Award honors Barbie
for being the most enthusiastic
lavender lady. We have chosen
to remember her leadership and
everlasting, dedicated spirit by
honoring a Delta senior in her
name who demonstrates the
greatest enthusiasm for Delta.
For decades, Barbie was our
most spirited, loyal, and hardworking Delta for Delta. She
served as president on the Alumnae
Executive Council and was actively
involved in the Epsilon Alum
Chapter in Long Beach. Barbie
chaired the fundraising efforts for
the Delta Kappa Psi Planetarium
project in Hentschke Hall. The
original goal of the project was
to raise $25,000 to complete
the planetarium in the science
building, but more than $30,000

was raised with a foundation gift
of an additional $25,000. Barbie
headed the Redlands Admissions
Assistance Program for the
University of Redlands for many
years, received the Distinguished
Service Award in 1989, served on
the University of Redlands Alumni
Board of Directors, received a 75th
Anniversary Medal, was a member
of the Faculty Club, Bulldog Bench
and the Alumni Leadership Group,
and received the Delta Woman
of the Year Award in 1965. She
currently resides in Wilsonville,
Oregon.

Talia Poidmore
2014 Barbie Powers Allen Award for Delta Enthusiasm
Congratulations to Talia Poidmore, our 2014 recipient of the Barbie
Powers Allen Enthusiasm and Exceptional Service Award.
The initiated members voted this Delta as the senior whom they felt
was the most spirited, loyal and hard-working Delta.
Talia has been involved in SPURS, TRAIN as a facilitator and lead
facilitator, an Orientation Mentor for three years and as lead Orientation
Mentor, Maroon and Grey as a member and as President, and as the
Director of Big Buddies for three years.
She is a member of Order of Omega Greek Leadership Honor Society
and served as their Service Chair, and is on the Dean’s list. Other
honors include the Four Year Achievement Award, the Omicron Delta
Kappa Senior of the Year Award, the Douglas R. Moore Distinguished
Service Award, and the Poseidon Award for Outstanding University
Involvement.
Since becoming a Delta, she has served as Recruitment Chair,
Executive Community Service Chair and as President.
Talia hails from Las Vegas, Nevada, is a Sociology and Anthropology
major and after graduation plans to attend Loma Linda Graduate School of Behavioral Health.
Megan Mikulich
2014 Lois Hentschke Scholton Leadership Award
Congratulations to Megan Mikulich, our 2014 recipient of the Lois
Hentschke Scholton Leadership Award.
Megan has been involved in TRAIN, SPURS, Panhellenic Council
Recruitment Chair for two semesters and Academic Chair, Orientation
Mentor, 2014 Society President, Greek Council GAMMA President,
Connections Day Mentor, and is on the Dean’s List. She has been very
involved with ASUR as Social Affairs Co-Director of the Movie Series,
Co-Director of Homecoming and Special Events, Executive Director, and
President, the third Delta in the last three consecutive years to be ASUR
President!
Since becoming a Delta during her freshman year, Megan has held the
positions of Fundraising Chair, Presents Chair, Executive Social Chair,
Second Vice President, and Alumni Chair.
She is a member of the Order of Omega Greek Leadership Honor
Society and Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society.
Megan hails from Las Vegas, Nevada and is an Environmental Business
Major. She is currently applying to graduate school to study higher
education and is seeking a job in management training problems.
104th Birthday Luncheon
The 104th Delta Kappa Psi
Birthday Luncheon was held
on Saturday, May 3, 2014, at the
beautiful Beverly Mansion and
Victorian Garden in Fallbrook. The
Omega alumnae chapter hosted.
Delta alumnae and collegians
enjoyed an afternoon of sisters and
friendship, a silent auction, and
traditional Delta songs.
The Alpha alumnae chapter will
host the 105th Birthday Luncheon
at the Redlands Country Club on
Saturday, May 2, 2015. See you

Homecoming 2014 brought
Deltas together for the fourth
Cuca’s and Coronas fiesta. Hosted
by the Kappa alumnae chapter, the
event brought together alumnae
and collegiate Deltas and their
families for tasty Mexican food
from Cuca’s, Delta songs, and
socializing.

Alpha
Inland Empire
We officially launched the year with a tailgate
party at Greek Park. We then headed over to Currier
Gymnasium to watch the U of R women’s volleyball
game against UC Santa Cruz. Initiated Members joined
us in the stands so we could offer lavender support to
our star Delta players Lauren Ellingwood, Marisa Gile,
and Ellie McLeod (proud Delta Mom, Annie McLeod,
led the cheering section).
In October, we had our second annual Craft Night at
Annie’s, which brought out a crowd even if not a lot of
artistic talent. We also had our first official meeting to
Alpha alumnae cheer on Delta’s volleyball players at
start planning the Birthday Luncheon. There was lots

We returned to our older traditions for the December and January meetings with a Christmas ornament
exchange and Soup Supper at Char Burgess’ house. Eighteen Alphas, representing an age span of 60 years,
attended the ornament exchange.
Future meetings will include Bunco and Ice Cream Sundaes, a visit to a new olive oil tasting shop in Redlands,
and work nights to get ready for the Birthday Luncheon. We look forward to seeing you all on May 2!

Orange County
Greetings from Orange County! The Kappa Chapter loves to get
together for Fun and Sisterhood. We always enjoy happy hours and duffy
boat rides throughout the year, and this year has been no different! Along
with the initiated members, Kappas hosted Homecoming at the Delta
House in October. Over 100 Deltas and families enjoyed the afternoon
with Cucas burritos, Coronas, and soft drinks. Mark your calendars for
Homecoming next year -- the Delta House looks great and it is easy to
register on line.
In addition to Homecoming, this Fall we celebrated the Day of
the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) by making sugar skulls at Marna’s. In
December we came together for our traditional ornament exchange.
All Deltas are invited to Kappa events! We love it when out of
area Deltas “wait out” traffic with us before heading home. Look for

of Delta’s new Arizona alumnae chapter, Phi. The
Arizona Deltas had a really fun time chatting about
their respective experiences at the good ol' U of R and
are hoping to meet again soon.

Arizona Deltas celebrate the first meeting of the Phi

San Diego
The Omega Alum chapter in the San Diego area has been busy this year. We have 16 paid members in our
group with 8-12 attending meetings. We started in September by planning our year with lunch and visiting. In
December we had our Christmas gathering with exchange of ornaments and toys for military families followed
by lunch. Our January outing was to the Natural History Museum to view the King Tut exhibit and the new
Coast to Cactus exhibit followed by Mexican food in Old Town. We invited spouses and friends to join us. This
year our group is in charge of the Recipe Boxes for the Seniors and the Mother/Daughter Tea held at the Alumni
House in March. Some of our meetings were work
parties putting the recipe boxes together, writing the
invitations for the Tea and putting our baskets together
for the raffle/silent auction at our Birthday Luncheon.
This year we sent out letters to Delta alumnae in the
San Diego area encouraging them to become active in
our group or start an evening or Saturday group. In
spite of postage paid, addressed postcards with a choice
of responses, we were disappointed in the response.
Our group meets on selected Fridays in the morning,
followed by lunch. Let us know if you are interested

Fifteen recent graduates attended the young alumnae event at Johnny Taco during Homecoming Weekend.
Many of those in attendance were from the classes of ‘11 and ‘14. After Johnny Taco, we met up with more girls
to spend time in downtown Redlands. There was tons of young alumnae lavender love around Redlands that
weekend!

1970s
Cindy Proskefalas Dell ’78 and Patti Rogers Wallace
’79 got together one evening at EPCOT in September
(photo at right). “We sampled the wine flight at the
Germany Pavillion in honor of our Salzburg days. We
finished the night with Margaritas at the Mexican
Pavillion,” Cindy wrote. “We are going to the 2015
Delta Birthday luncheon and want the Fall 1976 Pledge
Class to be there!”
1980s
Melissa Moore ’81 was selected as superintendent
of El Segundo Unified School District and started
her new position on July 1, 2014. In addition, she
successfully defended her dissertation on September 9,
2014 and earned her doctorate degree in Educational
Leadership from the University of Southern California.
Melissa is enjoying her new life and position in Los
Angeles. She is ten minutes from the beach and has
already hit the Hollywood Bowl, Pantages Theatre,
and a USC Football game at the Coliseum. Next time
a Delta drops off a relative or friend at LAX, make
arrangements to have lunch with Missy!

Kristin Stephenson Parkinson ’90:
Mark and I celebrated 24 years of marriage this
year! We headed to Disney World without kids. Our
three sons are soon to be 20, 18, and 15. Paul is a
sophomore at Texas A&M and Blake (a high school
senior) is hoping to be a freshman there next year.
Jack is a freshman in high school. We sure are feeling
older! It was GREAT to see Holly (Mahan) Thompson
at A&M in October when she was there taking her son
for a college visit! She was there with us on the Delta
Booze Cruise in 1989 for Mark’s and my first date! I
am still practicing speech therapy in an elementary
school part-time and loving it. We live in the same
neighborhood in Houston as Delta “legend” Ann
Halligan! Deltas are everywhere! Call anytime you are

Beth Collins ‘94:
I’m currently working in a Physical Therapy office and
love the new 8 am to 4 pm day, which fits perfectly
with my new instant family (photo at left). I met Brian

July 21, 2012.

Elizabeth Peale Hind ’95 married David Hind
(Johnston/Sigma Kappa Alpha ‘94) in 2012. Liz and
Dayve met at the U of R when Professor Joy Manesiotis
assigned them to work together as poetry partners in
Eye and Voice of Poetry 2. The Hinds live in Irvine,
California, and Liz teaches junior high English and
media arts. She is also working toward a Ph.D. in
cultural and curricular studies at Chapman University.
Deborah Miller-Calvert ‘97 and Chris Calvert are
happy to announce the arrival of Joseph Christopher
Calvert, November 18, 2014, 7 pounds 10 ounces and
21 inches. The holidays were extra special as Joseph
is the best gift ever! Joseph already loves Deltas and
Bulldogs!
Anne Castagnaro ‘97 fulfilled a bucket list item
by solo travelling around Australia, Thailand, and
Cambodia for four months. When her Omicron
Alumnae sisters presented her with an REI gift card
before her departure, she promptly purchased some
