This is reflected by an outstanding balance in 2010: The gross domestic products increased by 3.9 percent and export rates were on a new record level. Economy signals still indicate further growth. The automotive industry is one of the major drivers of innovation. It has a leading position in Germany and opens up new opportunities in emerging markets. This success is based on worldwide leading manufacturers, a network of excellent international suppliers, medium-sized companies, innovative start-ups and a comprehensive infrastructure for research and development. Innovative ideas and their implementation require interdisciplinary approaches, e. g. regarding new materials for lightweight construction and interior design, comfort and safety components, onboard electronics or power train systems, from conventional combustion engines to hybrid solutions and fully electric vehicles. The Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs, Infrastructure, Transport and Technology particularly supports developments in the field of e-mobility. This includes technology funding programs, the expansion of applied scientific centres as well as the testing of e-mobility concepts in cities and regions. This framework provides companies new opportunities to get involved with their novel competences in the automotive industry – an important fact considering that approximately 70 percent of added value is created by the suppliers. Since 1997, Bayern Innovativ coordinates the international network BAIKA. This has been initiated by the Bavarian State Government in order to promote innovation and cooperation within the automotive industry. Hereby, Bayern Innovativ brings together car manufacturers and suppliers, relevant technology-based companies from other sectors as well as research institutes on a regional, national and international level and facilitates sustainable network structures. Today, the BAIKA network comprises more than 2,200 enterprises and scientific institutions from 50 countries, among these about 1,100 from Bavaria. Regional proximity offers advantages for development and production with respect to speed and flexibility. The main objective of the Cluster Initiative, launched by the Bavarian State Government in 2006, is to support the cooperation of companies and institutes primarily in Bavaria. The Cluster Automotive is also managed by Bayern Innovativ and provides additional benefits through synergies with BAIKA. 02_12S_Jahreskongress_Zuli11_en 05.05.2011 15:55 Uhr Seite 6 C M Y CM MY CY CMY K This year, Bayern Innovativ conceives and organizes the 13th international congress ”Zulieferer Innovativ”. For the first time Bayern Innovativ performs also as a partner of the new "Haus der Forschung" comprising four institutions. The objective of their collaboration is to further enhance technology transfer and to make it even more accessible for scientific institutions and companies. Over the past years “Zulieferer Innovativ” has become one of the most important meeting points for the automotive industry. The congress is again organised together with the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) and the IFG Ingolstadt and receives the support of the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Infrastructure, Transport and Technology. Political guidelines enhancing innovations will be outlined. Experts from industry and science will give insight into technological developments, will highlight future trends regarding interior design and perceived value and will report on successful strategies in competitive markets. Together with the accompanying exhibition the congress will once again be a highly attractive marketplace to present latest developments and to establish new cooperations for tomorrow’s innovations. I am looking forward to a successful congress and would like to cordially invite you to participate.
