As a not-for-profit organisation, we
encourage guests to join SYHA Hostelling
Scotland, which is free to everyone under
16 and students in full-time education.
Members enjoy a range of exclusive
benefits including dual membership of
Hostelling International, providing access
to more than 4,000 youth hostels in over
80 countries worldwide. Membership
and guest overnight income supports our
charitable youth programmes and the
maintenance of the hostelling network,
particularly in rural Scotland.

More than just accommodation, SYHA
Hostelling Scotland provides the chance
to have fun, discover new and exciting
places and meet like-minded people with
similar interests from around the world.
Many of our hostelling sites are located in
the heart of Scotland’s most spectacular
scenery, providing a perfect base for the
wealth of activities that take in the best
of Scotland, from outdoor pursuits and
wildlife watching to cultural and heritage
activities.

Youth Hostels?
SYHA Hostelling Scotland
welcomes people of all ages,
backgrounds and interests.
Our youth hostels are popular
with individual travellers, families
and small and large groups. It is
this mix of visitors which makes
hostelling such a unique and
interesting experience.

holiday season can vary, e.g.
weekend opening only. Please
check our website or call or email
the relevant youth hostel directly.
As a guide, the reception
desks of small rural hostels
are normally open between
7.30-10.00 and 17.00-22.30 and
are generally closed during the
day, whilst our city youth hostels
are normally open 24 hours.

A range of other facilities, such
as breakfast, packed lunches
and drinks are available at most
locations and many offer lunch
and evening meals, along with
an alcohol licence so that you

available in most of our youth
hostels. Facilities vary by location

Our welcoming, family-friendly
youth hostels provide the ideal
base for an exciting, affordable
holiday. Hostelling is a safe,
relaxed and very friendly
way to travel and you can
meet people from all over the
world. Many youth hostels are
close to loch sides or beaches

Standing at the foot of the highest
route in the UK, the Bealach na Ba, the
Applecross peninsula boasts a dramatic
landscape, with white sand beaches,
historic ruins & fishing townships.
Hartfield House, originally the old
hunting lodge, is situated approx. 3/4m
from Applecross bay, set in private
grounds. With the sheltered waters of
the Sound & spectacular mountains right
on the doorstep, it is an ideal base for
outdoor activity. Hartfield sleeps 50 in a
mix of twin, triple & private bedrooms, &
enjoys excellent facilities. The Applecross
Inn & Walled Garden are just a short walk.
Set in the West End, our youth hostel
is within walking distance of Aberdeen

This charming rustic youth hostel,
situated south east of Achiltibuie
between the beach and the mountains, is
a great place to relax and enjoy the views.
Fantastic hill and coastal walks start right
from the door, with the Ben Mor Coigach
ridge offering stunning views of Stac
Pollaidh and Suilven. Enjoy cruises to the
Summer Isles, which are havens for seals
and seabirds. A variety of local produce
and seafood can be found nearby.
Surrounded by woodland nearby to
Aviemore town centre and Cairngorm
Mountain, our youth hostel provides
an ideal base for year-round activities,
including hillwalking, climbing,
snowsports, mountain biking, pony

A small rustic youth hostel situated next
to a beautiful white sandy beach, an
ideal location to watch the abundance
of wildlife or walk the unrivalled coastal
paths. Close to the Old Man of Stoer
and within good proximity for climbing
Suilven and many other mountains

as canoeing and windsurfing in crystal

coast of Orkney mainland. The hostel
offers comfortable accommodation and
is in close proximity to the spectacular
and varied coastline, scenery and

Boat of Garten is on the Speyside
Way and No. 7 long distance cycle
route. The village makes an attractive
centre, away from the madding crowds,
from which to explore the Park and
surrounding attractions. Fraoch Lodge
is on the edge of the village, close
to the shops and bus stop. We have
various rooms types with excellent
facilities and additional catering and
guiding services, if required. In winter,
we are ideally placed to access the
Lecht and the Cairngorms.

Established in 1931, SYHA Hostelling Scotland
is a self-funding charity operating a network
of nearly 70 exceptional youth and affiliate
hostels for the benefit of all those wishing to
experience what Scotland has to offer. Our
