This was undoubtedly one of the warmest Regional shows since it all began 25 years ago, but a little heat couldn’t stop veteran Chevelle and El Camino owners from attending the event in Springfield, Missouri. The very first Midwest Chevelle Regional was held on the Howard Johnson lot back in June of 1988 and it was this same location, now the Ramada Oasis Convention Center, where car owners celebrated the show 25 years later. Only seven people attended the 1st and 25th show. Their picture and names can be found on page 9 of this newsletter. All five Chevelle clubs that have hosted the show were represented. Those would be the Queen City Chevelle Club, Wichita Area Chevelle Owners, Mid-America Chevelle Club, Oklahoma Chevelle and El Camino Owners and Gateway Area Chevelles. Without these groups, the show wouldn’t have survived for 25 years. To those of you who came despite the hot weather and other problems, we give a big “THANK YOU!” 26th Midwest Chevelle Regional June 21-22, 2013 Hard Rock Casino & Hotel Catoosa, Oklahoma 1964 Bronze - David Gohring 1966 gold - Robert Loehr 1970 gold - david blunt 1967 gold - mark lacey 1969 gold - neal schubert 1970 silver - Mike Maule 1970 gold - kyle booth 1964 silver - Rueben araiza 1972 Gold - Ron Downs 1971 gold - jim morrison 1970 gold - dan yuran 1970 gold - terry king 1972 silver - Glenda griffin Judges’ choice - Jim Morrison President’s choice - david jamis Kelley McKenzie Mearl McBride Mark Lacey Brad Bogard Greg Martin Steve Calder Karl Koenig Glenda Griffith Ron Downs Jim Proe Robert Killingsworth Mike Maule Neal Schubert Jim Morrison Terry King Kelley McKenzie Dan Dreiling David Gohring Jeff Terrill Kyle Booth Reuben Araiza Dennis Davis Jake Long Dennis Langston Joe Palmer Steve Reed Terry McCale Larry Davis These Chevelle owners took advantage of the limited shade and camped out here most of the day. Hinshaw’s Chevelle Parts was there with parts from their business in Elon, North Carolina. The 25th Annual Midwest Regional Car Show was a huge success despite the 100 degree temperatures we endured all weekend long! It is true that some of our potential car show attendees chose to stay home in their air conditioned abodes but they didn’t realize it was just a short walk from the show field to the air conditioned Ramada Oasis convention center where one could rejuvenate, rehydrate and refresh before returning to the car show. Those diehards that managed to brave the heat got to witness and experience a first rate car show (IMHO). Thanks to everyone who worked the registration tables and sold t-shirts, pop, water, and 50/50 tickets (excellent job Buck! We raised $236 for Crosslines thanks in part to Becky Moore who donated her 50/50 winnings back to Crosslines). Thanks to those who judged cars ( a special thanks to head judge Bill Wiehe), took the car photos, got show cars parked in the right spot and drove a group of folks to the Rogersville drag strip. Thanks to Doug and Angie Wilks for the Papa Murphy’s Pizza Poker Run and the delicious pizza served at their Battlefield store location. Thanks to Craig and Rhonda Garrett who once again faithfully guarded the entry/exit point to the show field all weekend. Thanks to Robert Killingsworth for playing hot tunes during the show and shine, showing videos during the BBQ and making sure the power point awards ceremony was a success. Thanks to Jim Proe for making sure we didn’t forget anything. Thanks to the Ramada Oasis for providing such a wonderful venue and making our stay enjoyable. You get the picture! It takes a lot of dedicated club members to successfully pull off a show of this magnitude. You guys and gals are the best! Thanks once again to our good friend James Hinshaw who came all the way from North Carolina to bring us good cheer and lots of Chevelle parts. Thanks to Sylvia Hinshaw for letting James come! See you at our next club meeting on July 15th at 2:30 PM at Doug and Angie Wilks’ house. 1st Midwest Chevelle Regional attendees in 1988: Mark Jantz, Jack Fields, Randy Johnson, Tom Masteller, Robert Killingsworth, Mike Moore and David Eslick.
