Check the website & the next Rundschreiben issue due in June for more details on events Merci’s Excellent Adventure My 2002 C230, Merci, recently had an interesting adventure. In traffic approaching an intersection, I heard sort of a “flappity-flap” sound. I pulled over and found all four tires were intact. The light changed, and traffic moved; as I rounded the corner, the steering felt suddenly heavy (?) A few hundred yards later a dire warning lit up: coolant; Stop. I stopped, and called the dealer, who gave me the number for Mercedes Roadside Assistance (not the number in my book, but 800.222.0100). After a wait, an agent determined where I was, asked which dealership I wished to go (I was in Massachusetts where we have more dealers to choose from). He stated that I’d get a phone call telling when the tow truck would arrive; that automated call came saying that assistance would arrive in 70 minutes - an overestimate. The truck was there in half the time. The tow truck operator handled Merci very gently and carefully, and soon we were on our way. Al and I rode to the dealership in our other car. As we walked inside, an automated call came, asking whether the service had been completed or was underway, and how long it had taken. Very impressive! Roadside Assistance had already notified the dealer that the car was on its way; paperwork was already in hand when we arrived. By the way, the towing service was free (even for a 9-year-old car). The malfunction was a broken fan belt but no other damage was sustained. Yes, the repair was costly, but otherwise the circumstances could hardly have been better. Hooray for Mercedes Roadside Assistance! -Dotti Larsson Das Rundschreiben Page 2 For sale by members 280SL, ’85 Smoke Silver/black. 64,000 mi., 5-speed manual trans.
