2016 South Australian Dressage Championships 1
Welcome!
From the Chair - Dressage South Australia
Welcome to the 2016 HYGAIN South Australian Dressage Championships. This event is proudly supported by
Equestrian South Australia and Dressage South Australia, along with our event partner HYGAIN. Thank you to our
Gold Sponsors Chaballo, Morphettville Equine Clinic/Horsemed SA and Horseland. We thank our Silver, Bronze and
Event Supporters. We encourage you all to utilise the services of our sponsors listed in this program where-ever you can in
acknowledgement of their wonderful support of dressage in South Australia.
It is great to see more than 105 horses entered for this event. Each horse and rider combination has spent many hours training
and preparing to compete at South Australia’s pinnacle event. Some have travelled great distance and we especially welcome
our regional and interstate competitors.
Classes across the event range from Preliminary to Grand Prix with separate classes for Ponies, our Youth Riders and an
Amateur Owner Rider stream. Our Youth rider group is growing and we are thrilled to have them competing up to Medium
level this year. In recognition of this growth we are offering championships at each Youth level. This event will also feature
Freestyles to Music at EA and FEI Level.
The DSA Committee thanks the Mount Crawford Dressage Club for hosting the event at their grounds. We are thrilled to
have been able to provide some additional funding (from the profits of the 2015 State Championships) to MCDC to expand the
sand warm up area. We know all competitors will appreciate this, both at this event and at all events hosted here in the future.
In addition to our sponsors, I would especially like to thank our interstate and local Judges, our Pencillers, Stewards, the ESA
Office team and the many Volunteers that make the running of our Championships possible. I also take this opportunity to
acknowledge all the hard work and dedication of my fellow organising committee members: Carly Boon, Kirsty van Loon,
Collette Wheadon, Sue Brown and Brigitte Drinkwater - thank you! Without you we wouldn’t have an event.
Wishing our riders a great competition. For our spectators, we know there will be a lot to look at and in between we
encourage everyone, spectators, competitors and volunteers, to have a wander around our trade village. There is something for
everyone, so treat yourself with something to remember the event!
We wish everyone a great weekend of competition.

Equestrian South Australia (ESA) and Dressage South Australia (DSA) will conduct the 2016 South Australian Dressage Championships under
the auspices of Equestrian Australia (EA) in strict accordance with EA National Dressage Rules for Official Competitions (current edition), and
the FEI Rules for Dressage Events (current edition).
(a) Riders taking part in the Event must be financial members of EA. In open competition riders must be 12 years or over on the day of
competition (or at least ten years old if riding a pony).
(b) Horses and ponies in the competition must be registered with EA, have a current Competition Licence for Dressage or Pony Dressage
and be owned by a financial member of EA. All horses and ponies may compete at only two (2) consecutive levels.
Swabbing: Random swabbing will take place as required by the EA National Dressage Rules governing State Championship events and in
accordance with the FEI Veterinary Rules, subject to any amendment or inclusions as at the date of the event. Please make yourself aware of
prohibited substances and the relevant withdrawal period. Check the ingredients of all products you are using including herbal products with
your vet. Security and access to the horse is the sole responsibility of the owner/rider.
All tests are as per current EA tests 2016, or current FEI tests. No test may be commanded. Horses and ponies may not compete Hors
Concours at this event.
Entry Forms must be correctly and fully completed. Any errors and omissions may result in the entry being rejected. Entries close midnight,
Monday, 28 March 2016. NO LATE ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED.
Competition Licences: A photocopy of both sides of each horse's current Competition Licence must accompany entries.
Competition performances must be recorded. ENTRIES WILL NOT be accepted unless this is included. HC performances
used as qualification must also be recorded or a copy of the relevant test must be included with the entries.
Horses in EA and FEI classes must exceed 149cms with shoes or 148cms without shoes
Any horse may compete in two consecutive levels only and a maximum of three tests within those levels (which may include a freestyle) at EA
Level and a maximum of two tests (which may include a freestyle) at FEI Level can be ridden on any single day. If entering a Freestyle class it
must be the appropriate level for the combination.
9.
10.
No rider may ride more than 2 horses in any competition.
REFUNDS: A full refund of fees will be given for entries not accepted or balloted out. Once an entry is accepted, the Judges Levy and
Admin, Swab and Grounds Levy is non-refundable. DEPOSITS, where applicable, will be refunded after each horse has completed all its
nominated tests or is scratched before 12.00 noon on Wednesday, 27 April 2016. ENTRY FEES - fifty percent (50%) of entry fees less the
Judge’s Levy and Admin Levy will be refunded upon presentation of a Veterinary Certificate or Medical Certificate, which must be presented
to the committee no later than two days after the competition. Where a horse is on a reserve list and does not compete in that competition,
or has to scratch and is replaced by a reserve, then all (100%) of the entry fee for that competition will be refunded.
11. Bridle numbers must be worn with one on each side of the horse (bridle or saddle blanket); they are the responsibility of the competitor to
provide. The SA Bridle number system will apply. For stallions, EA recognised Stallion Disks must be worn at all times in accordance with EA
Rules.
12. PRIZES: Winners and placegetters in all classes will be presented with ribbons or rosettes to a maximum of 8 th place (depending on entries)
and prize money and/or vouchers and/or product of equivalent or greater value, to 3 rd place. If applicable to your event, prize money will be
paid to winners and placegetters via electronic funds transfer and within fourteen (14) days after the completion of the event – it is therefore
essential that you complete the PRIZE MONEY / REFUNDS FORM as a part of your entries for this competition. If you are registered for
GST, prize money will be inclusive of GST. All presentations will be unmounted at the end of each day’s competition and competitors must be
in full competition attire. Failure to comply will result in withdrawal of prizes and prize money.
13. Protests must be lodged in writing, together with a $50.00 deposit, no later than 30 minutes after the incident which gives rise to the dispute.
The deposit will be refunded only if the protest is upheld.
14. Test Sheets can be collected from the Secretary's Office once all results for the competition have been officially posted.
15. Freestyle tests will be held on Sunday. These tests must be ridden to music. CDs must be lodged with the secretary ONE HOUR PRIOR
TO THE START OF THE EVENT. A horse may enter only one freestyle event. A freestyle bond of $25.00 is included as a part of your
entry for the freestyle tests. After completion of your test and following the competition you will be sent a refund of the freestyle bond. It is
advised that riders supply two (2) copies on different brands of CDs in case of malfunction. Competitors may arrange to check their music
with the producer by mutual arrangement.
16. YOUTH DRESSAGE RIDER COMPETITION: Specific classes are offered at this event. To enter the horse/pony must have obtained
qualifications in official competition at the level in which it is entered (see qualifications).
17. Pony classes are offered from Preliminary to Elementary. If five or more entries are received for Ponies for Medium and above, they will
compete in separate classes, otherwise they will compete in Open competition. Ponies require qualifications for tests as per the schedule.
18.
19.
20.
21.
The Committee reserves the right to withdraw prize-money or cancel classes with insufficient starters, or limit entries at their discretion.
BALLOTING OF ENTRIES: There will be a limit of 35 horses per event with six reserves and one division only in all classes. Where more
than 35 entries are received balloting will occur. Balloting will be based on the average of the highest percentages of three tests at the
particular level, back twelve months from the date of close of entries. The 35 highest average percentages will be accepted in each
competition. Horses with three performances will be considered ahead of those who have two or only one performance percentage. A HC
performance will be considered to be a qualification, but will be balloted as above.
THE DRAW: Will be strictly adhered to and riders must present to THE MARSHALL 15 minutes prior to their specified times. Failure
to present to the judge at the correct time may incur elimination.
GEAR STEWARD: EA competitors must present to the Gear Steward prior to each test. FEI competitors will be gear checked either
before their test or at the conclusion of their test (at the rider's discretion), and prior to leaving the marshalling area. FAILURE TO DO
SO WILL INCUR ELIMINATION.

AGGREGATE CHAMPIONSHIPS
The selection of Competitive Preliminary, Novice, Elementary, Medium, Advanced, Pony and FEI Champions and Youth Rider Champions will be
made using the ranking points system – see current EA Rules for Dressage. Place-getters in each event will receive points for their placing – eg 30
for first, 29 for second etc. The total number of points at each level for each horse will be added and the horse with the highest number of points
will become the Champion for that level. Where there is an equality of points, the Champion will be the horse with the highest aggregate % at that
level. To be the FEI champion the horse must compete in two FEI classes and the appropriate freestyle for its level (see starting possibilities in the
current EA Rules for Dressage).
Amateur Owner-Riders (AOR) must nominate as AOR when entering. You will be flagged as an AOR rider, however will compete with
others in your nominated event. Separate Championship and ribbons/rosettes will be awarded to AORs for the aggregate of each EA level and FEI
Event. The selection of the AOR Champions at Preliminary, Novice, Elementary, Medium and Advanced will be made using a separate ranking
points system for declared AOR in each competition, using the current Equestrian Australia Rules for Dressage as a guide. AOR ranking in each
event will be allocated points for their placing – eg 30 for 1st, 29 for 2nd etc. The total number of points at each level for each horse will be added
and the horse with the highest number of points will be the Champion for that level. Where there is an equality of points, the Champion will be the
horse with the highest aggregate percentage at that level. The FEI AOR Champion will be based on an aggregate of two FEI levels AND appropriate
freestyle, using the same points system. To be the AOR FEI Champion, the horse must compete in two FEI Classes and the appropriate freestyle for
its level (see starting possibilities in rule within the current Equestrian Australia Rules for Dressage.)
Interschool riders must have nominated as “Interschool” when entering. You will be flagged as an Interschool rider, however will compete
with others in your nominated event. Separate ribbons will be awarded to Interschool riders.

Our aim is to provide riders with a friendly and encouraging environment to develop their
dressage competition skills. Southern Vales Dressage Club runs competitions once a
month, offering dressage tests for all standards.
Our members range from those just starting out in dressage to Grand Prix and professional

Our fantastic facilities include 4 permanent sanded dressage arenas, 2 enclosed 70x40m sand
work-in arenas, large club rooms with canteen facilities, permanent wash bay, new holding
yards and a large parking area.
Our grounds are fully fenced which makes it very safe for competitors and horses alike.
Please come and join us at our next competition!
