C OLLECTED N OTES S EPTEMBER 2013 F ROM THE P RESIDENT ’ S D ESK The CDCT competition year is pretty much behind us, but there are still a few shows scheduled in the fall by other GMO’s and by several stables. A highlight will be the Regional Championships and the firsttime ever U.S. Dressage Finals. Congratulations to CDCT Vice-President Kathy Thode and her homebred Oldenburg Brookside Patch for qualifying at Second Level for the Regional competition in Saugerties mid-September. Best of luck to both of you! Many thanks to Anne Ward and Dinah Guarino for co-managing our Casual Show. While numbers were down a bit, the enthusiasm ran high. We had beautiful weather – a real gift in this summer of high heat and torrential rain. Thanks to Ginny Grove, manager at Oxley Equestrian Center, for allowing us the use of this terrific facility once again. Our “R” judge, Valerie Knight, was generous with her time and comments for each competitor. By the time you read this, our clinic with David Thind will have occurred. Many thanks to Michelle Blade for organizing this clinic. David has been a popular clinician, and I’m sure the clinic will be a great success. Thanks also to Gale Wolf for hosting the clinic at Gale’s Equine Facility. Continued on page 2 C OMING CDCT E VENTS ! N EXT M EETING O CTOBER MEETING TBD There wasn’t a board meeting in August & the September meeting was cancelled by the club president so there are no meeting notes in this issue. They are using the calendar as a fundraiser to help with the funding for the North American Junior Young Rider Championships as well as education for our young dressage enthusiasts. If anyone is interested in promoting our Region 8 younger members by purchasing calendars, please contact nancylaterdressagehorses@gmail.com> . The cost per calendar is $35 each. Your support is greatly appreciated! P AGE 2 C OLLECTED N OTES President’s Note Continued from page 1 As our thoughts turn to the successes of the summer, we focus on the goals for next year. We will have our Annual Meeting in November, which includes the election of Officers and Board members. I urge you to get more involved in the running of Cayuga Dressage and CT, and to invite your horsey friends to join and get involved as well. Our organization is only as vibrant as you make it. We would love to get some new ideas, especially to support our young riders and folks interested in combined training. Please consider coming to the annual meeting and volunteering your time and energy to make our GMO what YOU want it to be! Cheers! C OLLECTED N OTES P AGE 3 CDCT C ASUAL D RESSAGE S HOW AUGUST 10, 2013 Report by Anne Ward The CDCT Club couldn’t have asked for a better competition day with our casual show being held at the J.T. Oxley Equestrian Center at Cornell with 14 rider-horse combinations and 24 rides. Saw a variety of different levels of riding skills, starting from Intro division up to Third Level. There was a chance to see many types of horses (breeds, colors, and such); and riders traveled from Hammondsport, Newfield, Trumansburg, Moravia, Elmira-Corning area, Ithaca area, Richford, Auburn, and Troy/Athens area- Pa to perform. Many thanks to the judge, Valerie Knight, “R” judge (from Walworth, NY) who gave such encouraging remarks that most of the riders were able to show improvement on their second ride (and due to the lower number of rides that had been anticipated, we were able to turn this casual show into a ride-a-test so that the judge was able to critique us verbally). The show could not have run efficiently without the scribe (Bethann Beckhorn), the scorer (Diane Moose), and the ring steward (Julia Zuckerman). My ring set-up was completed by Ginny Grove and her crew at the equestrian center as they now have a permanent outside riding arena, and due to the lovely weather we were blessed with….could compete outdoors. Ginny Grove also did a wonderful job of maintaining and grooming the outdoor arena. My runners were Jane Marshall and anyone willing to help out; Dinah Guarino was the ultimate in managers as she got the whole process going in producing this show!!! The outcome was successful due to the positive remarks from Valerie Knight, the performance of the riders and horses themselves, and all the volunteers and spectators; please see the results for any particulars. Please note on the show results that our very own Ginny Grove was High point champion on Brio with a score of 75.32 in First Level Test 3; and Pennsylvania’s Pamela Harper was Reserve High Point Champion on Nesquick with a score of 74.20 in Training Level Test 3. Kudos to them both!!! Thank you to all (and if I missed any one, please forgive the omission); and I do need to again mention that Ginny Grove of the J.T. Oxley Equestrian Center bent over backwards to accommodate the needs of the dressage show, especially providing stalls for all those who requested one—which made my life so much easier and gave this show an opportunity to exist.
