ALUMINA-ALUMINUM PRODUCTION
INDUSTRY FACTSHEET
The Aluminum Industry is growing here in the Mahoning Valley. According to the U.S. Bureau of
Labor Statistics, the Youngstown-Warren Region ranks 3rd of all MSA in the nation in Alumina
and Aluminum production (NAICS 3313) by number of establishments and total average employment, with 17 establishments employing 1,376 workers. A study by the Aluminum Association
determined that the manufacturing and wholesaling operations of the aluminum industry in the
Youngstown-Warren area are directly responsible for $755.7 million in economic output. When
supplier and induced impacts are taken into account, the aluminum industry generates nearly
$1.02 billion in economic activity in the district.
Matalco, a manufacturer of billets and logs for the aluminum extrusion manufacturing industry,
has chosen Lordstown, Ohio to place their $100 million, 200,000 square-foot advanced manufacturing facility. Expected to be online by early 2016, the plant will produce 350 million pounds
of various series, high-quality aluminum billet.
Award winning Exal Corporation is headquartered here. The company is the largest manufacturer of impact extruded aluminum containers in the world.
Additionally, there are over 100 companies to support the industry in fabrication, tool and die,
machinery, coating and paint finishing, transportation and a variety of other services.
