Parish Memorial Grant, the Joseph C. Johnson Memorial Grant, and the Kurt H.and Donna M. Schuler Small Cash Grant Programs. Although these grants are available each year, any or all may not be awarded based on the committee's receipt and evaluation of candidate applications. Only engineering technology students qualify, not those seeking an engineering degree. Click Here to view more information. 4 SOCIETY NEWS On July 24, 2014 we lost David LoSchiavo of the Delaware Chapter. David was a very instrumental member in his chapter for a quite a few years. He served as Secretary and Vice President before relocating to the Baltimore area. He was at Virginia Sprinkler and the Vice President of the Baltimore Chapter. A great guy, he will be missed! Occupant Load Factors For Ambulatory Health Care Facilities Building Construction and Safety Code apply the occupant load factor for business occupancies of 9.33 m2/person (100 feet2/person) to ambulatory health care facilities. It has been questioned whether this use is appropriate. To provide a basis for discussion, data was collected via questionnaires and site visits at 21 health care facilities and 53 floors at different times. The results are contained in this FREE report, "Evaluating Occupant Load Factors for Ambulatory Health Care Facilities" recently released by The Fire Protection Research Foundation. Click Here to view PDF. 6 SPRINKLER The push for sprinkler installation and edification across the U.S. is gaining momentum. Twenty states have formed sprinkler coalitions comprising the fire service, building officials, and others who are making an effective case for sprinklers or advocating for mandatory installation. NFPA's Fire Sprinkler Initiative provides links to state-based organizations dedicated to advocating for home fire sprinkler systems. These Web pages support the coalition's efforts while providing useful resources and sprinkler news stories with a local focus. "We really saw with the tornado a few years ago, the difference that building codes make," said Planning & Development Director Joel Hornickel.
