“THE CALL”

“It wasn’t as dramatic as I was hoping
it would be, and I realize now that for
most people it isn’t. No clear sign or
lightening bolt, out of which a voice in
my head said, ‘I want you to be a Pallottine Sister’. God just lets you know
in ever so slight ways the life journey
you are to take. For me it was an ongoing attraction to the life the Pallottine Sisters lived. I began to attend
Mass every day, and ever so gradually
through high school I knew that I
wanted to be a Sister and so began to
talk about it to one of the Sisters and
to my pastor.“

PUT THE PIECES TOGETHER
DISCOVERING GOD’S WILL IN YOUR LIFE
On Dec. 8, members of the Pallottine
Sisters New Membership committee
presented a Day of Prayer at
St. Anastasia Church
in Harriman, NY. The 4-part series on
discerning God’s Will – “Listen to
Learn”, “Learn to Respond”, “Respond
to Love” and “Love to Serve” – was part
of the parish initiative to aid parishioners
in their Advent devotions.

Our juniors
have been very busy including participation in an “IMAGE” Retreat making
them aware of themselves as images
of God. They began to see themselves as young women given the
mission to recognize God’s image in
others while at
the same time
reflecting it to
everyone
around them.

TEEN AGE FEDERATION (PTAF)
Annual Conference, Ellenville, NY
December preparations for Christmas in our Latino community are always filled with prayer and food.
The first eleven days of the month are dedicated to a
novena-plus of praying the rosary with host families and
friends in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Nuestra
Señora de Guadalupe, and getting ready to receive the
torch and life-size paintings of St. Juan Diego and Our
Lady of Guadalupe which traveled from Mexico to New
York.
Mementos of a great
weekend!
Called the “Carrera Antorcha Guadalupana” groups of
Latinos from Mexico to New York gather in local parishes
and ultimately in St. Patrick’s
Cathedral for a grand Lliturgical
Celebration. St. Anastasia, St.
Patrick’s, (Highland Mills and
Newburgh) as well as Sacred
Heart combined to send a bus
load of people to the celebration.
The second half of the month is devoted to preparation
for “El Niño Jesús”, the Child Jesus, including the
tradition of “pidiendo posadas”, “begging a place” for
Mary and Joseph that the Child may be born. This tradition focuses on the children in the families. In our local
Latino community, one decade of the Joyful Mysteries is
said each evening and an age appropriate teaching on
the scripture is given, with lots of prizes for children who
answer questions correctly and lots of traditional foods
afterward.
