Newsletter September 2013
Newsletter September 2013 From the Chair: This photo was sent to me by CBC member Jeanne Robinson. Is there anyone out there who can throw more light on it? Do send in any comments to info@capebullmastiffclub.co.za Showing Bullmastiffs Circa?? Probably in the UK, an interesting part of our breed history. What caught my eye were the different sizes of the dogs. Are these all Bullmastiffs or are there some Mastiffs there as well? Annelie Thereon is available for orders: mrstheron@gmail.com Special prices for CBC members In this issue we present Hereditary Eye Disorders (HED) in the Bullmastiff. A serious issue which needs attention from the breeders as the incidence of HED is increasing at an alarming rate. Breeders are advised to have their breeding stock tested prior to mating. CBC member Ina Jenkins has her new pup ‘Jinx’ examined by Dr Anthony Goodhead at the Panorama Veterinary Eye Clinic in Cape Town. There is no anaesthetic, no sedation and absolutely no pain or discomfort. Members are encouraged to have all breeding stock examined. “The eye of the dog might be the mirror of its soul. In this case, the mirror has been blurred because of a hereditary deficiency”. Reference: SOS Dog by Johan and Edith Gallant. Before humans die they write a last Will and Testament, give their home and all they have to those they leave behind. If with my paws I could do the same this is what I would ask……… To a poor and lonely stray I’d give my happy home, bowl of food, toys and cosy bed: I’d add to that the lap which I loved so much: the hand that stroked my fur and the sweet voice which spoke my name: I’d will to the sad, scared shelter dog, the place I had in my human’s loving heart, of which there seemed to be no bounds. So when I die, please do not say “I will never have a pet again, for the loss and pain is more than I can stand” - instead go and find an unloved dog, one whose life has held no joy or hope and give my place to him. This is the only thing I can give……..the love I left behind. Author unknown Conversion table for those, interested in establishing, how old their dog is.
