Ruined structure It was built in 1910 as soldier's quarters for the men of the Royal Artillery. On 18 December 1941, Japanese army invaded Hong Kong Island through Lei Yue Mun Fort and fierce fighting broke out. Bullet holes can still be seen on the walls. 29 The Alexander Grantham brass bell was originally located on its fire deck. Whenever the fireboat dropped anchor or was adrift in thick fog, the crew would toll the bell every minute to notify other vessels of its presence to prevent collisions. The semi-open design of the exhibition gallery allows visitors to look at the fireboat from all angles.
