LIVING IN STUTTGART – GENERAL INFORMATION
The housing situation in Stuttgart is tense. Thus we often have problems in finding suitable accommodation.
Usually we reserve a room for you in one of the student residence halls on campus in Vaihingen or in the
IAESTE flat in Schwabstraße.
Some important information about the rooms
Deposit
If you live in one of our IAESTE rooms you will have to pay a deposit of 150 €. If the room
is clean and proper at the end of your stay and the keys are with us again you will get the
deposit back. For unclean rooms we cannot return the deposit.
Rent
The rent is 255 € per month in the student residences and 280 € in Schwabstraße
flat. Payment is monthly at the beginning of the month. You can pay at our office in cash
or make money a transfer in our bank account.
If you arrive or leave during the month minimum charge is half the rent for this month.
E.g. you arrive on the 25th. You will be charged for the time 16th to 31st (2 weeks). Same
rule is valid for leaving. More than 1 person per room is not allowed except for the shared
rooms in Schwabstraße.
Equipment
Rooms are equipped with bed, wardrobe, table and chair. What you need to bring is a
blanket or sleeping bag, a pillow and bed-linen. In rooms on the campus you need to
bring or buy your own plates, pots and cutlery as well.
LIVING IN STUTTGART – ROOMS AND REGISTRATION
Some rules for the IAESTE rooms
Departure
Check you exact date of departure in time and let us know at least 6 weeks before
leaving. If you want to prolong or shorten your stay let us know as early as possible.
Cleaning
You are responsible for cleaning your room. On the campus shared facilities like
bathroom and kitchen will be cleaned, nevertheless you are responsible for cleaning
your pots and plates and tiding up after cooking.
At our flat in Schwabstraße all tenants are responsible for cleaning the flat on their own
including all facilities there.
Take care of your room! Ventilate it regularly and close door and windows before you
leave your room. If anything is damaged or missing, please inform us at once.
Registration
Every trainee has to register within one week after arrival at the "Einwohnermeldeamt“the registration office of Stuttgart. You will receive the application-form from us or from
your landlord. This form has to be handed in personally and you have to show your
passport and Visa. There are different registration offices:
- Bürgerservicezentrum West at Bebelstraße 22 (near Schwabstraße)
- Bürgerbüro Mitte at Eberhardstraße 39 (in the centre)
- Bürgerbüro Vaihingen at Rathausplatz 1 (near campus)
Before leaving Stuttgart you have to check out at the same place you have registered.
LIVING IN STUTTGART – GENERAL INFORMATION
Bank account
For receiving your salary you need a bank account here in Germany.
You can open an account at every bank but we recommend Landesbank
Baden-Württemberg. They have many branches e.g. directly at the campus and the
account is free for students.
Salary
Your salary will be transferred to your bank account either by us or directly by your
employer. If you receive your salary by us, we directly deduct the rent for your room
each month.
Important: First Salary will be paid at the end of the first month!
So bring enough money for the first month (deposit, rent, insurance, cost for living).
Mailing List
A very convenient way to get in touch with us and the other trainees is subscribing to the
IAESTE Stuttgart Mailing List. Up to date information and recent changes in the
schedule of activities are also posted. To sign up use the online form on our website.
You find it at “Incoming”.
Facebook
Moreover most of us are registered at facebook. We invite every Trainee of 2009 to join
there.

reaches the suburbs. Ask for a map at any ticket office.
The S-Bahn also provides an easy way to get to the airport.
More detailed information about fares and links see next page.
