Page 2 Heartbeat First Baptist Church News & Events PLEASE BE IN PRAYERS FOR THE FOLLOWING Volume 18 July 22 issue 14 tran-si-tion: a passage from one state, stage, or place to another: CHANGE Life is filled with periods of transition. At times, transition comes at our initiative and is welcomed. A young man and young lady look into each other’s eyes and say, “I do”, knowing that change is inevitable, yet eager to face marriage together. Then about the time the young couple are becoming comfortable with marriage, the first-cry of a newborn awakens an entirely new era of transition. Other transitions are not so welcoming and leave us questioning the present and the future. Death, divorce, the sudden loss of a job, these are not changes we often welcome. This summer has been a season of transition for our family. Graduation from SHS began a long litany of “lasts” with Carrie Beth. Just a few weeks remain until she moves to Ouachita and begins to spend the majority of her years away from “home.” And although we’re very excited to see God’s plan for her life unfold, at the same time we’re really not looking forward to this season of transition. “What are we going to do,” has become a question that we’ve asked multiple times and I expect will ask many more. As a family of faith, we are also involved in a season of transition. Chris Roller, our Student Pastor for the last four years, recently accepted the invitation to become Student Pastor at FBC, Rogers. Sunday was his final Sunday with us. Many attended Sunday evening to say “good bye” and thank Chris and his family for their time at FBC Stuttgart. Just today (Tuesday) I shared a tear-filled farewell with Amy and Addy. I’m sure the same “what are we going to do” question has been asked and is being asked throughout our family of faith. Let me answer that question for you. First, we are going pray and wait for God. The temptation is to quickly find a replacement for the sake of our current student programs. However, we are seeking much more than simply a replacement. We are seeking God’s direction, guidance and wisdom to lead us to the person He would have serve here. The Bible proclaims the sovereignty of God and I have no problem believing that as God was calling Chris away from us, He was calling someone else to us. So, I encourage you to commit this time of transition to the Lord through prayer. Just as the early church prayed desperately for God’s grace and power, so do we. I also ask that you pray for Dylan Cooper, our Student Ministry Intern, and the Student Ministry Team as they provide leadership for the remainder of the summer. Second, know that Scott and I have already begun to make contacts with ministry friends throughout the state and the leadership of the Arkansas Baptist State Convention regarding our search. We have several promising leads. Also, we will be meeting with our Personnel Team on Monday evening to discuss this process. Please add Donna Hoskyn and the Personnel Team members to your prayer list as well. I am grateful for Andrew Skinner and Scott Quimby stepping up to make sure that our Acts 1:8 mission trips to Vilonia and Boston remained on our calendar. Since these mission journeys are composed primarily of students, it was so important for adults to step up and provide leadership to make these a reality. Thanks to Andrew, several students have had the opportunity of ministering in Vilonia this week through our partnership with Valley Church. Scott, Andrew, Jennifer Gill and Kayla Reed will be accompanying our students to Boston during the first week of August. When you see these folks, thank them for stepping up! During all seasons of life, and especially during seasons of transition, we trust in God who is sovereign over all things and will accomplish His purpose in our lives and through our lives! I took four of our students and Claire took one student to Joy Works. Praise Works and Joy Works are both incredible camps. Together there were over 700 students on OBU’s campus. Both camps work on music all week to present on Friday. They also take training tracks, learning how to use their talents for the church and the glory of God. During Praise Works there is always a ministry project. These 600 students gathered diapers, toiletries etc. for Hunger Sites and Pregnancy Care Centers. I can’t say enough about the week. It’s a blessing to invest in students who will greatly impact the kingdom, using their talents in the local church and the world. I’ve included some pictures so you can see a small part of the week.
