Vernon Schools out and the kids are hanging around the house. How many of you Moms have heard those famous words “Mom I’m bored!”? Kids think they can’t wait to get out of school for the summer, but they do get bored sitting home. One of the most fun things a kid can do for FREE is to go to Vacation Bible School. A lot of churches in your community are having Vacation Bible School and are advertising them with signs, on the radio, and in local newspapers. These ads are for you and your kids. .The churches want you to bring your kids, and several of them will let your teens be helpers. Our kids just finished Vacation Bible School at Lighthouse Assembly of God in Mt. Vernon. They had a theme called Saddle Ridge Ranch. My nine year old son joined in one of the classes, while my fourteen year old daughter was one of the volunteer helpers. I’m not sure which one of them had the most fun. One thing for sure is they had a week of fun that left them memories that will last for many years, if not a life time. So find a church near you and let your kids have a time of their life. Give the gift they won’t out grow Thompson’s Guitar Shop 240 West Main St. Mt. Always consult a veterinarian to determine the best feeding schedule and types of foods for your individual animal. As for treats, while they should be given in moderation, you may need to offer them more frequently during training. Fortunately, there's one type of treat many dog owners are glad to give. It's made with goat's milk, so it's easy for the dog to digest. Its rich proteins and vitamins are readily absorbed by a dog's system, where they quickly go about their healthy business. The Nature's Dog All Natural Treats in A dog's life can be happier and healthier when you provide healthful treats. Peanut Butter or Chicken Flavor from Canus are low-calorie, energizing snacks good for training puppies or rewarding senior dogs. FROM WHERE I SIT.............................................................By: Bro. Jack Bruce “ARE ALL PARENTS WORTH HONORING?” Exodus 20:12 This is not the question. God well knew when He gave the fifth of the Ten Commandments, that some parents might not be worthy. There have always been disgraceful fathers and mothers and there always will be people that even angels could not live with except by great effort. Nevertheless, God said “Honor thy father and they mother.” (Exodus 20:12) What does this mean? (1) At first we say it means to love our parents: But we can see that to honor means more than that and we use the commandments as a rod of discipline to bring our children in line by saying “obey your parents.” And that is the meaning, too, but that is not all. Love and obedience can be had without respect. So it takes all three to really honor: Love, Obedience and Respect. (2) So, to honor our parents means to respect them: Why? Because of their experience. They can tell us so many things that will help us in so many ways. One young man folded clothes for his mother sitting at the ironing board. She talked with him about the problems of life and he never forgot what she said. A girl weeded the garden with her father and she learned about life, as well as about plants, as he explained the wonders of human nature. Respect the wisdom and insight of your parents. Respect their weakening bodies and changing minds. Don’t see them for what they are now but for how God sees them, their lives all spread out before Him, for what they have been and for what they will be. (3) What does it mean to honor our parents?: Hold their hands when they are lonely. Guide them through the strange evening of life. Visit them. Send them pictures of your children. Lift them up to Heaven with your prayers. Lean on them a little, not much, but enough to give them the will of being wanted and needed. Comfort your parents and make them proud of you. This is the high degree of honor they deserve. Comfort them by begin the kind of person you should be. Let them see the better part of themselves in you. Comfort them with your loyalty to the church and to Jesus Christ and His Word. Comfort them by setting an example for their grandchildren. (4) In Conclusion: You may say “Yes preacher, but my parents were not church people.” Then there is a great honor you can bestow on them. Lead them to Christ! Help them establish a personal relationship with Jesus Christ by receiving Him as their personal Savior and Lord! Honor them with the highest honor of all; that of seeing them become Christians! Then help them find the warm cheering fellowship of a good church! God extends His grace to every person who will receive it through His Son Jesus Christ. He is looking for people who are seeking the meaning of life, and He is willing to extend His love to you for all eternity if you will look at Him by faith and allow Him to forgive you of your sin. He loves you and His desire is for you to know Him and experience the joy of His presence! In Calvary Love, Dr. Jack Bruce, DOM Emeritus Rockcastle Baptist Association A fashion designer has announced a new line. He’s showing clothing for children. “Parent’s that are well dressed,” he said, “ would like to see their children in fashions that reflect their taste and vaules.” And so would our heavenly Father. So the Bible says, “As G o d ’s c h o s e n p e o p l e , holy, and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.” ARE YOU 55 OR OLDER, UNEMPLOYED & NEEDING A JOB? To help, home-improvement expert Spike Carlsen offers a few do-it-yourself projects that could mean more money in your pocket down the road. Extend the life of your deck for years. - Check for loose boards and fasteners. For "popped" nails, pound them back in and then drive a 3-inch galvanized drywall screw in next to it to hold the board firmly in place. - Gunk that's accumulated in the gaps between deck boards can hold moisture that leads to premature rot. To remove it, take an old handsaw and lightly "saw" through each gap. The blade will push the debris out of the gap so your deck can breathe. Take care of leaky or overflowing gutters. - Leaky or overflowing gutters can create problems ranging from peeling paint to damp basements. - Use an old plastic spatula as a minishovel to scoop leaves and debris out of the gutter. If it's too wide, trim one edge. - Once clean, place a garden hose in the "high end" of the gutter, turn on the water and check for leaks. If there's a leak at a seam, clean the joint and apply permanently waterproof silicone caulk. If there's an actual hole in the gutter, replace it rather than patch it. Weatherize with silicone caulk and save. - Air can enter or exit a house through cracks and openings in many places, and leaks can lead to higher energy bills, water damage and mold growth. The upside is that a homeowner can save 10 percent or more on energy bills by air sealing, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. - Not all caulk provides energy savings over time, though.
