In Loving Memory of Denyse and Sess requested by Jean.
Each year on this Sunday we follow the events of Jesus’ life from the
time he entered Jerusalem until the point where he was laid in the tomb
after his crucifixion. Jesus first entered Jerusalem riding a donkey amid
waving palm leaves. It was in Jerusalem that he foretold Judas’ betrayal,
Peter’s denial, and established the Eucharist at the Passover meal.
Jesus took his disciples into Gethsemane to pray, but they could not stay
awake with him. In the garden, Jesus was turned over to the authorities,
tried before the Sanhedrin, brought to Pilate, and sentenced to death.
When offered a choice during the festival to release a prisoner, the
people chose the release of Barabbas. Their choice was beyond Pilate’s
comprehension, so he symbolically washed his hands of the whole deal.
Jesus was turned over to the Roman authorities for crucifixion and
mocked by them. Finally, Jesus died on the cross. The earth darkened
and quaked. He was prepared quickly for burial and laid in the tomb.

The Lord’s Passion
From a sermon by Saint Leo the Great, pope
True reverence for the Lord’s passion means fixing the eyes of our
heart on Jesus crucified and recognizing in him our own humanity.
The earth — our earthly nature — should tremble at the suffering of
its Redeemer. The rocks — the hearts of unbelievers — should burst
asunder. The dead, imprisoned in the tombs of their mortality, should
come forth, the massive stones now ripped apart. Foreshadowing of
the future resurrection should appear in the holy city, the Church of
God: what is to happen to our bodies should now take place in our
hearts.
No one, however weak, is denied a share in the victory of the cross.
No one is beyond the help of the prayer of Christ. His prayer brought
benefit to the multitude that raged against him. How much more does
it bring to those who turn to him in repentance. Ignorance has been
destroyed, obstinacy has been overcome. The sacred blood of Christ
has quenched the flaming sword that barred access to the tree of life.
The age-old night of sin has given place to the true light.
The Christian people are invited to share the riches of paradise. All
who have been reborn have the way open before them to return to
their native land, from which they had been exiled. Unless indeed,
they close off for themselves, the path that could be opened before by
the faith of a thief on a cross.

Our students participated in the April 4th Stations of the cross. First graders as
well as the older students took part in this prayer service. Parents and
grandparents accompanied them and assisted in the readings.
The teachers and students move beyond their own classes for activities. The 7th
graders have been buddies for the first graders as they learn about the Mass. The
third graders wrote letters to those preparing to receive sacraments this year.
They offered prayers for them as they continue to learn about their sacrament.
Parents have offered support and assistance when needed to make the program
a success. Won't you consider joining us to help this program grow and prosper?
Please keep us in your prayers.
