Pro Populo
Earlier this week we were all quite shocked to learn of His
Holiness Pope Benedict XVI’s announcement that he will
be abdicating the Petrine ministry on Thursday, February
28, 2013. Certainly this historic event deserves our prayer.
I invite you to join me for a holy hour at the Cathedral of the
Immaculate Conception in Peoria, on Thursday, February
28, 2013, 7:15 p.m.to 8:15 p.m.
Monday, February 25

This holy hour will be an opportunity for us to gather as a
diocese and reflect on the Pope’s excellent leadership, wisdom and holiness. It will be an opportunity to pray for his
health and ask for the guidance of the Holy Spirit as a new
pope is elected. I hope that many of you can join me for this
time of prayer.

Religious Education Classes Observe
the Beginning of Lent
Both Wednesday and Sunday Religious Education classes
held a prayer service observing the beginning of Lent. The
prayer service reminded the students of the various Lenten
symbols as the purple color, the cross, the almsgiving container and the palm branches used during Lent that help us
to remember how Jesus died for us out of great love! The
Alleluia was also buried in a box and covered signifying that
this word would not be said again for the next 40 days but
said once again on Easter Day!! Thanks to Pat Wright who
provided the music in song adding to the solemnity to the
service.
