The Inaugural association along with the Yanagisawa family have kindly donated to the Yanagisawa library a collection of works including; Traditional Japanese poetry (waka, haiku etc.) amongst other works of art from successive Yanagisawa feudal lords, documentation including, Official archives, historical documents, and classical works from the Kouriyama feudal clan, as well as files focusing on the history, arts and governmental structure of the Yanagisawa historical area as well as Nara prefecture. The emperor Jinmu and the empress are enshrined. The Mail Hall and Kaguraden halls, which were built of plain wood and peel of Japanese cypress, located in the huge precincts of 500,000 square meters at the foot of Mt. Unebi. The buildings harmonize with white gravels on the approach to the shrine and deep greenery of the forest in the background, creating a splendid atmosphere. The Main Hall and Bunkaden House are designated as important cultural properties. The Main Hall is the reconstruction of the Kyoto Imperial palace sanctuary. Visitors of the Main Hall and the Kaguraden House can experience the beauty of the Japanese traditional architecture. His father wanted to celebrate his successful study abroad trip in Tang, China, and had asked him to start building the Kannondo Hall. The present Hall was reconstructed by the followers of Kannon in the Genroku period with whatever materials remained from the fire. ◆ Mizushi-kannon (eleven faced Kannon) み ず し かんのん じゅういちめんかんのん 御厨子 観 音 ( 十 一 面 観 音 ): The eleven faced Kannon Bodhisattva is said to have proceed of Kibino Makibi’s faith in Kannon and have miraculous powers to make one’s single wish come true. The Kannon has a horse headed Kannon in its womb which is said to be a statue of Buddha prayed for road traffic safety. Miwa is a sacred mountain where Oomononushi-no-mikoto (Daikoku-sama), appeased a spirit on his own. It is a holy ground that has been worshipped as a god’s mountain. There is no main shrine and the people pray to the mountain through the three torii gateways in the backyard of the worship hall, keeping up the original way to worship a god. Nobody has been permitted to cut any trees and grass by ax or hatchet in the sacred mountain for a long time. The road running along the foot of Mt. Miwa is called “Yamanobe-no-michi” which is a reflection of ancient times. さ い じんじゃ ○ Sai Shrine 狭井 神 社 :A branch shrine of Omiwa shrine. Famous for the “remedy well”, the spring water flows from Mt. Miwa. The water has been worshiped from old age as the sacred water that could cure every kind of illness. This place is called the Nikko of Kansai because of the beautiful scenery changes in the four seasons, such as the abundant cherry blossoms in spring and red maple leaves in autumn. The shrine is also famous for the Kemari festivals held in the spring and autumn. じゅうさんじゅうのとう ●Thirteen-storied pagoda (important cultural property) 十 三 重 塔 : The symbol of Tanzan Shrine. The only wooden thirteen-story pagoda in the world. Lots of people visit in the fall to see the pagoda surrounded by the beautiful autumn leaves. From there, temples were established in many influential shrines all over Japan. As Omiwa Shrine’s temple, Byodou-ji temple flourished during the Medieval Period until the early modern times. Although it lost complete power due to the oppression on Buddhism during the Meiji Period, the Main Hall was reconstructed thanks to the effort of the present priest and gained the title of “Miwa Mt. The principal image is the eleven-faced and one thousand-armed Kannon Bosatsu which is widely believed and worshiped for curing eye diseases. It is famous for being the stage of the puppet drama “The miracle of Tsubosaka” sang of the conjugal love. In the precincts of the temple, you can findthe largest stone Buddha in the world and relief sent from India give a hint of the Silk Road. From spring to early summer, Japanese yellow roses, azaleas, and lavenders bloom, while in the fall, the leaves turn red in all parts of the precincts and the neighbouring mountains also change colour. It is said that Shotoku Taishi gave a lecture on Buddhist scriptures of Shoman for three days in 606, and then lotus flowers fell from the sky and piled up in the garden. More mysterious phenomenon occurred, such as the thousand heads of Buddha appearing on the southern mountain, and Shotoku Taishi’s crown glowed in sunlight, moonlight and starlight. After these happenings, the Emperor ordered to build a nunnery, which was the origin of the temple. さん こうせき ★ Sankoseki Stone 三 光 石 : This stone seems to be an image of the sunlight, moonlight and starlight which glowed from Shotoku Taishi’s crown when he gave lecture on Buddhist scriptures of Shoman. れんげづか ◆Mound of lotus flower 蓮 華 塚 : This is said to be the place that the accumulated flowers were buried in. にめんせき ★two-faced stone 二 面 石 :The stone statue produced in Asuka Era. It has two heads back to back. The two faces represent good and evil, expressing the two sides of a human being. The visitor can observe Rhododendron blooms from the middle of April and then Cherry blossom and azalea flowers. The autumn foliage is also beautiful to look at during the fall season. にょい りん かんのん ざぞう ◆ The sitting statue of Nyoirin Kannon 如意 輪 観 音 座像 (important cultural property): :The biggest and oldest clay figure in Japan. It is said to be made by Kobodaishi using clay that was transported from India, China and Japan. ◆ Gilded bronze statue of Nyoirin Kannon こんどうにょいりんかんのんぞう 金 銅 如意 輪 観 音 像 (important cultural property): The statue is a Hakuho period sculpture and standing in the womb of the main image of the temple. The replica of statue is available for observation. Besides play equipment allowing children to learn about astronomy, electricity, magnetism, sound, light, and power; Visitors can also try on a spacesuit and can participate in workshops with a theme that varies monthly. And is located on the North West hilly regions of Mt Kaifuki which shares a border with Takatori cho, in Kashira City’s southern region. Amongst these, grave number 126 is the most famous. Made at the end of the 5th century, it is a long square tomb containing a traditional split bamboo Mokkan from which several important cultural relics were excavated. Amongst others, on the outside were found a steel katana and a lacquered disk depicting the four symbols engraved on it, from inside the Mokkan glass ware bowls, ornamental earrings, bangles and other objects were excavated. Kashihara museum contains not only information and artifacts about the Niizawa Sendzu Kofungun but also a detailed history of the Kashihara area. It started as an information base for human rights called “Suiheisha History House” and afterwards the name was changed to “Suiheisha History Museum”. This museum was proven by abundant historical records related with the region. It shows comprehensive history of the movement and the activists. The Suiheisha’s Declaration is said to be the first Declaration of Human Rights in Japan. Nijo and three rocks (all year around) Special exhibition: autumn season. Please confirm beforehand. Mt. Nijo is a volcano which erupted approximately 16 million years ago. This is a unique museum based on the three types of igneous rocks produced by the eruption: Sanukite, which is said to have inspired the Paleolithic culture, tuff, which is used for stone coffins, and emery, which is used for sandpaper this museum shows the relationship between the nature of Mt. Nijo and the people through a diorama and video images. The remains of Kashiba City during the ancient times are also exhibited. A special exhibition on archaeological specimens also will be held. The visitors can get an overview of the geography and historical environment throughan aerial photograph on a scale of 1:4000 of the whole region of Katsuragi. Precious historical records are displayed in the special exhibition hall based on the theme of “Katuragi” four times a year. Special lectures on Katsuragi and curators’ lectures on history and culture are held every second Saturday on the 2nd floor every month to increase the visitors’ knowledge about the area’s history and culture.
