Did you know that only 17% of Catholics actually
go to Mass each weekend and that this number has been
on the decline for many years? Did you also know that
32% of people who attend Christmas and Easter Masses
only come to church once or twice a year? As your pastor,
I believe that this is an opportunity our parish cannot
afford to turn away from any longer, and that the time has
come to do something to help re-engage those who have
fallen away from the practice of the Catholic Faith.
During the upcoming Easter season I am
implementing a bold and innovative program that will help
evangelize both engaged and disengaged Catholics in our
parish. In coordination with an organization called
“Dynamic Catholic,” a free Catholic book will be given to
each and every parishioner who attends Mass on the
weekend of Easter Sunday.
Recent studies have shown that parishioners who
read Catholic books on a regular basis are three times
more likely to volunteer their time at their parish. These
parishioners also financially contribute four times more
than those who are less engaged with their faith.
To make this program a reality, I am asking for
your help. Would you be interested in being an integral
part of this innovative parish evangelization program?
Please fill out the form below and place your contribution
into next weekend’s collection or mail it to the parish.
A list of the names of donors who give $100.00 or
more to this program will be inserted into each book we
give out and the names will also be published in the
bulletin, unless you would like to remain anonymous.
Donations in memory of a deceased loved one are also
encouraged.
Thank you for taking the time to consider helping me make
this bold and ambitious program a reality and a success.
God Bless,
Reneé Brissette
Religious Education Coordinator
In Christ,
Fr. Verdelotti

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS
Rev. Richard A. Donnelly Council #322
Due to the recent inclement weather, the
Offertory Collection was significantly low, as can
be seen in the Stewardship Report. We ask all
those who did not attend Mass to please
remember to make-up your weekly contribution.
Your generous donations enable the parish to
function on a day-to-day basis and are crucial,
especially at this time of year. We thank you for
your continued support of St. Mark Church.
Sponsor certificate requests
If you are 18 years of age or older, you must be
registered with the Parish as an adult and be
Confirmed in the Roman Catholic Church. If you are
married, your marriage must be recognized by the
Roman Catholic Church. This is especially
important if you are asked to be a Godparent for
Baptism or a Sponsor for Confirmation. It takes 6
months of attending Mass regularly to be eligible.

Sacraments for the Homebound
When someone who has attended Mass their entire

is very important that we as the Church bring the
Eucharist to them. Sr. Angelina and our
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion visit the
sick and homebound members of our parish. If you,
or someone you know, who is a member of our
parish needs to be ministered to, please contact Sr.
Angelina at 942-1616.
The season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and
all members of the Catholic Church should be aware
of the following:
Abstinence from meat every Friday of Lent, for
those 14 and older, is required by Church law. Good
Friday is a fast day: those between the ages of 18
and 59 should eat less; that is, taking no solid food
between meals and only one full meal that day.
Serious health conditions excuse a person from these
regulations.
Following the implementation of the revised Code of
Canon Law on Nov. 27, 1983, the United States
Conference of Catholic Bishops determined that the
rules of fast and abstinence which have existed for
the last several years in this country be maintained;
namely, that the faithful observe suitable penitential
practices on all Fridays throughout the year. These
penitential practices need not include abstaining
from meat. However, as indicated above, the faithful
must not eat meat on all the Fridays of Lent as well
as Ash Wednesday. They must also observe
faithfully the fast regulations as they have been
stated above in accord with the universal law of the
Church.
(Cf. Code of Canon Law, Canons 1250-1252)
