Saint John the Evangelist
“There are three classes of people: those who make
things happen, those who watch things happen,
those who have no idea what’s happening!”
... Saint Therese of the Child Jesus, the ‘Little
Flower’, is patroness of the Missions, though she
never left her Carmelite convent! She died from tuberculosis, at the age of 24, on September 30, 1897.
This Wednesday (1) is her feast day.
... On Thursday (2), we recognize our ‘Guardian
Angel’ ! “O Angel of God, my guardian dear, to
whom God’s love commits me here, ever ...”
... On Saturday (4) we celebrate Saint Francis of
Assisi! Francis was noted for his charismatic personality, deep compassion for all, and his love for
God’s creation. He renounced wealth to follow
‘Lady Poverty’! As a deacon he founded the Order
of Friars Minor (OFM), the Franciscans, today
numbering about 15,000 religious. He founded the
Poor Clares, and the Third Order for laypeople. He
died on October 3, 1226 and was canonized in
1228. He is patron of ecologists and of Italy!
“Make me an instrument ...”
... Father Joseph and Father Brian joined 168
priests of our Diocese for their Convocation this
past week, led by Father Timothy Radcliffe OP, a
renowned preacher, author and teacher. The
theme of our Convocation was “Alive in Christ”!
... Father Timothy will give a public presentation
on “How Does God Dwell in our Love of Each
Other” at the Shiley Theatre, USD, this Monday
(29) at 7:00pm. Admission is $10.00.
... Father Peter Borda was Associate Pastor here in
1976. His 9th Anniversary of death is this Sunday
(28). May he rest in peace.
... Saint John School children celebrate the Rosary
this Friday (3) at 2:00pm, in the church.
... Our Saint John School ‘Parents in Prayer’
group meets each Wednesday at 1:30pm in the Encinitas Room. So, this Wednesday (1), ‘Park and
Pray’! All are welcome!
... Our Children’s Liturgy of the Word takes place
during the Sunday 9:00am Mass. All children in
Grades K-5 are encouraged to participate.
... Our Sunday Preschool Program, at our School,
is from 8:50am until after the 9:00am Mass each
Sunday, and is for our 3, 4 and 5 year olds.
... Contributions last weekend (21) amounted to
$15,559.00 with 402 families using envelopes, while
a further $4,845.75 was contributed ‘online’.
September 28, 2014
... Roland and Virginia Johnson and their daughters, Laura and Debbie, were part of our music
ministry for a very long time. Virgie was also Parish Bookkeeper for many years! Belated “Happy,
happy birthday” to Virgie, on Thursday (25).
... Welcome to our North County Catholic Widows
and Widowers group gathering with us at our
10:30am Mass this Sunday (28). A lively crew!
Nancy Rogers is our Facilitator.
... Our Catholic Men’s Fellowship meet this
Wednesday (1) at 7:00am, and on Thursday (2) the
Altar Society gather at 6:30pm and the Knights of
Columbus at 7:00pm. Service!
... How blessed we are with Catholic high schools!

... Cathedral Catholic High School is searching for
college students who would be interested in a tutoring position there! For more info contact Gina at
garmstrong@cathedralcatholic.org
... Parishioner Greg Butler is featured in the September issue of our Diocesan newspaper, ‘The
Southern Cross’. On Page 16 you can read all
about Greg’s creative campaign to remind us that
‘Your Life Began At Conception’! Mighty!
... Our neighbors at Saint Thomas More, 1450 South
Melsrose Drive, Oceanside, have their Annual
Rummage Sale this Saturday (4) from 7:30am to
12:30pm. Have fun shopping for gently used treasures, plants galore, and more!
... This Friday (3), is a special day of prayer here
at Saint John for vocations to the priesthood in San
Diego. The 8:00am Mass is followed by Adoration
and Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament.
... Jack and Chris Kelly are ever with us! ‘Colonel
Jack’ is a highly decorated marine. He went
‘Home to the Lord’ on Sunday (21), after a bout
with cancer. His Funeral Mass is this Wednesday
(1) at 11:00am. May he rest in peace.

LA VERDADERA OBEDIENCIA
PARABOLA DE LOS DOS HIJOS
Septiembre 28, 2014
JUNTAS PARA LOS PADRES,
CATEQUISTAS Y AYUDANTES
Solamente necesitan venir a una junta.
Los maestros espirituales suelen repetir sus
enseñanzas, y repetir las de otros maestros. Quizás
no existen muchas verdades diferentes que decir.
Sólo muchos seres humanos lentos y aletargados,
