LOCATED IN HOUSTON, THE
FOURTH LARGEST CITY IN THE U.S.
Texas Southern University is located in Houston,
Texas , the fourth largest city in the US, and one of
the fastest-growing and forward-moving cities in the
world. As residents of this international city, Texas
Southern students are privy to numerous opportunities
and experiences.
Texas Southern University is located in the heart of
the city, in Houston’s historic Third Ward, giving its

THE CITY
Houston, the fourth largest city in the United States,
has a population of more than 4 million. Its residents,
representing a variety of cultures, contribute to
Houston’s strong international orientation in the

A major international business center, Houston ranks
third nationally in the number of foreign trade offices
and is the base of operations for the international
energy industry and for many of the nation’s largest
engineering and construction firms. In addition, more
than 50 foreign governments maintain consular offices
in the city, making Houston’s consular corps the largest
in the South and Southwest.
Texas Southern University is a small version of the City
of Houston, with its many cultures and great vitality.
Students of all ages and ethnic backgrounds mix in a
comfortable atmosphere. TSU’s location in Houston,
its diversity, and its vitality make it an exciting place to
study and learn.

More than 9,500 students, along with nearly 1,500
faculty and staff comprise the University’s community,
and like its curricula, the student body is characterized

As a result, students will find that the material they are
studying in one class will frequently apply to another
class.

The City of Houston covers an expansive area of
more than 40 miles. People often say, “Without a car,

you are lost in Houston.” Many areas, however, are
accessible by bus. Owning an automobile is a great
convenience but it may also prove to be an expensive
proposition. Every driver must obtain a Texas Drivers
License, and all owners of automobiles are required
by Texas law to carry insurance. If you are living on
campus, you do not need a vehicle.
