What a contrast! When I see record breaking statements, I am reminded that I want our students
to aim for record breaking goals in academics. Please monitor your daughter’s attention to class work that
needs to be done at home. High school is our last chance to get your daughter ready for college and the
workplace. If she does not get in the habit of studying every night, she will not be prepared for the amount of
work required outside the classroom in college. More and more careers are requiring workers to give beyond the 40 hour work week. Many bring work home to meet deadlines and accomplish good customer
relations.

February, 2015 was among the top five coldest months on record
As of September, 2015 seven of the nine months have broken monthly global records
2015 has been a year of record breaking US weather and continues to be the warmest year on record
On our web site under Academics and Grade Connect, Dr. Rose Scioli has provided a step by step
process for you to set up a parent account. It is imperative that every parent open a separate parent account. Your access to this account informs your daughter’s teachers that you are aware of not only grades
but also assignments. When parents check grade connect, their daughter’s name is listed in bold on the class
list. Be bold and stay informed!
Thank you for your compliance and patience with your SMART tuition account. What we have
learned in these beginning months is that tuition takes priority. If tuition is outstanding, any fees submitted
will be credited to tuition until the balance is current. This procedure impacts students wishing take part in
activities or athletics. The upcoming proms are considered activities and tickets will not be issued, if tuition is
not current.
Please refer to the section in this newsletter regarding SMART AID. It is important that this information is completed to qualify for financial aid.
Just a reminder that iPad insurance can still be purchased at http://www.gocare.com/shchs . Since
the initial 30 day period is over, GoCare now requires photos of the iPad to activate coverage. If your daughter's iPad is not insured and needs repairs you will have to take the iPad to an Apple Authorized Repair Shop
such as MTG http://www.247tech.com/ .
You have been a tremendous support of Catholic education. Your daughters will remember long
after they leave St. Hubert what you did to make their education possible. It is your daily Christmas gift to

Report cards were issued for the First Quarter in November. Overall, you and your daughters are to be
congratulated for a successful marking period. Students who received a failure met with a Guidance Counselor to review their performance and plan for future success. Please encourage your daughter to take advantage of the tutoring opportunities that we have at school if they are struggling. Many teachers hold private sessions, and National Honor Society holds peer tutoring at homeroom every morning.
Performance Series reports were also sent home with report cards. The Performance Series is a standardized testing system we use to assess student progress three times a year (September, January, and April). It
is a tool to help us understand student strengths and weaknesses so that we can better personalize your
daughter's education. The September testing window is used mostly as a diagnostic tool to get a baseline
idea of where student skills are. Please review the information sent home and let the Academic Affairs
Office know if you have any questions.
We are halfway through the Second Quarter now, and failure warnings will be issued on January 8th for
students who are at risk for failing the First Semester. As in previous years, the warnings will be electronic.
There will be a form that parents are to print, sign, and return to the teacher issuing the warning. Please
feel free to reach out to your daughter's teachers if you have any concerns. We at St. Hubert value your
partnership in your daughter's education.

It’s hard to believe that our first semester is coming to a close. The first two quarters at St. Hubert have
been busy and productive. Students and faculty enjoyed the fall musical, class trips, our Christmas concert
and, of course, Susie Hubert Day. The school is always abuzz with students who are involved in a number
of clubs, activities and athletics.
We have a full schedule when we return to school in January. We look forward to Catholic Schools
Week where we can celebrate our Catholic education, our appreciation for those in our school community
and our commitment to serving others. Many events are planned for this exciting week where we can
showcase our faith, talent and service.
The Parents’ Association hosts two of our most popular events in January: the fashion show and the father/daughter dance. We are thankful to our Parents’ Association for their support and commitment to St.
Hubert. These dedicated volunteers work tirelessly to host events and raise funds for our girls. Please
consider becoming a part of this wonderful organization.
We are fast approaching prom and dance season. Please refer to the dress policy in the handbook if you
have any concerns before purchasing a dress. Our handbook can be found on the St. Hubert webpage. If
you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the Office of Student Affairs.

A Few Notes from the Guidance Department…
At this point, approximately 85% of our senior class has applied to college! What a wonderful
number to see, especially since we have yet to reach the halfway point of the school year.
Many girls have already gotten acceptance and scholarship letters as well. Please remember,
SENIORS, that the guidance office wants copies of ALL your acceptance and scholarship letters!
Keep bringing them in!
Juniors—Now is the time to start thinking about taking the SATs in the spring. The SAT testing
dates are March 8, May 3, and June 7. It is never too early to register. Come down to guidance
for any information. Also, keep adding items to your resume on Naviance. Before you know it,
you will be seniors and will be asking for teacher recommendations. Your resume is what
teachers use to personalize recommendation letters.
Sophomores and Freshmen—It is never too late to consider joining an activity! Saint Hubert’s
offers many diverse options in clubs and athletics, and you have the opportunity to meet girls
who could be your friends for life. Joining clubs or athletics also gives you ample opportunity
to build your resume for colleges! If you haven’t already done so, get into your Naviance account and start building your resume TODAY!
Don’t forget to always check your school email!! This is vitally important for the SENIORS especially! The guidance office periodically sends scholarship opportunities via email!
Financial Aid Information
Anyone who is applying for financial aid for 2016-17 needs to complete the Smart Aid application ( wwwsmartaidforparents.com ). The early application deadline is December 31, 2015. It
must be done online. If you do not have a credit card to submit the fee, you can pay the fee in
school and we will submit it with a school credit card before Dec 23rd. Documentation can be
uploaded or faxed. See instructions on school web page.

“How is your religious education influencing your life?”
Two of our students entered the Fireside Catholic Publishing 2016 Essay Scholarship. It is with pleasure that we
share a little bit of their responses to the question, “How is your religious education influencing your life?”
I am standing in line with my cart overflowing with foods for the upcoming week at the local supermarket.
My mother suddenly darts away from me searching for an item she has forgotten. I begin to panic as I am now
the second person in line waiting on my mother’s return. As time progresses, I notice the person in front of me. A
skinny woman in raggedy clothes is anxiously waiting for the cashier to finish scanning her items. In her hands is
an upset baby she is attempting to rock to sleep to avoid any unwanted attention. My eyes stray from the unhappy baby to the items on the counter. I note that they are all necessities for the infant. The cashier looks up and
utters the total and you can instantly see the sense of panic overwhelm the mother just as I had moments ago.
Bouncing the child in one hand she reaches in her pocket to pull out every crumbled dollar and loose
change to hand to the clerk. An overbearing amount of embarrassment overcomes the mother’s face in place of
the panic as the cashier informs her she is short a significant amount of money. Instantly, I find myself asking in
my mind the question I have been told many times before, “What would Jesus do?” In that moment, without hesitation, I found myself digging through my purse scrambling for the money the woman did not have. She turned
around with a generous smile on her face, walked around the cart with her now sleeping child in one and hand,
and wrapped her other around me tightly. Hugging me firmly she whispers to herself, “Thank you God for looking
out for me, thank you for giving me hope.” In that moment I believed God was speaking to me. I began to think
maybe it was Him who helped me to react so quickly to the woman and her child in need.

Not only has my education taught me to participate in service to the community, but it has also taught me
to serve the Lord personally as well as take some time to thank Him for what I have, because what has been given to us should not be taken for granted. I enjoy being in a church or chapel because there is such a peaceful
silence that makes it enticing to sit and talk to God. Throughout all my life, prayer has been considered an important part of the day, so I lie down in bed and take a few minutes to ask the Lord for help as well as thank him
for everything else. I especially like to be a lector at my church because, not only am I using a talent to serve my
community, but I am also closer to the altar, and I feel like I am that much closer to God.
My morals have definitely been shaped by my family and experiences, but religion has certainly had an
important part in them. Learning the commandments and of how Jesus treated injustices has helped me to foster
a contempt toward crimes and unfair practices as well as be touched and content with altruistic, heroic, and positively life-changing stories. I get appalled at how terrorism is prominent in the world, of how several helpless citizens have their lives taken in the now frequent shootings, and of how genuinely kind people succumb to serious
diseases. On the other hand, I am glad when I hear of how a miracle baby was born or how a hero saved someone from an accident. I regard evil with sadness and distaste, but I regard goodness with pleasure and pride. On
a more personal level, I prefer to do something good that is bound to receive unappreciated comments from
peers than do something bad just to fit in with them. That is why I look for friends who share my morals and who
will accept me and my ways of being.

Campus Ministry
The day before Thanksgiving we had Susie Hubert's Day, and before all of the celebrating and fun, we had a brief Prayer service to give thanks to God for all the blessings we have received. We prayed for our faculty and staff, our benefactors and
friends, and most importantly for our wonderful students. We also had a canned food
drive and collected over 1,000 cans of food for area soup kitchens. On December 6,
we had out annual Mass and Legacy Luncheon to honor our distinguished Alumnae
and a distinguished student. As Christmas approaches, each of our homerooms are
sponsoring needy children for Christmas. We are buying and wrapping Christmas
gifts for 23 children. Preparations for our Senior Kairos Retreat are continuing and we
leave on January 3. over 50 students have signed up for this retreat. If you would like
to help by sponsoring a child to go on the retreat, please contact Father Check
(fathercheck@huberts.org). May God bless you with a Merry Christmas!
Fine Arts News
Starting mid January, the Art Department will be hosting a resident artist, Joseph Iacona, to
work with our Art 2 and Art 3 students on a collaborative project to brighten up the Bleigh
Street end of our cafeteria. Mr. Iacona is coming to us through the Art Futures Program at
the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Each year, eleven artists and schools are selected to participate in this opportunity. Along with the 30 hour residency, our school is awarded $850.00
for art supplies, and two field trips for the participating students to go on in order to connect
their work with the art work found in the museum. We look forward to this collaboration in
an area that can certainly need an upgrade.
Winter Sports
Cheerleading—All four of our teams qualified for Nationals in Ferbruary! Congratulations!
Indoor Track and Field—Returning state qualifier Cecelia Jones leads a young team with only three
upperclassmen. The future looks bright!
Swimming—We’re looking for a competitive swim season in the Catholic League this year. Our
team is led by returning state qualifier, sophomore Kaelyn Dougherty.
Basketball—After a tough non-league start to the season (3-3), we welcomed a victory over Hallahan to start our Catholic league schedule. JV has an impressive 3-1 record.
Bowling—After 3 matches, the varsity team started the season with an impressive 11-1 record.
The JV is perfect at 12-0.
