A NOTE FROM FR. BRUNO NWACHUKWU Laetare Sunday Today is the fourth Sunday of Lent, traditionally known as Laetare Sunday. It is the Mid-Lent Sunday on which clergy wear a rose colored vestment as a sign of the Church’s joy in order to anticipate the celebration of Easter. This Sunday’s Entrance Antiphon sets the tone: “Rejoice O Jerusalem…” On this Laetare Sunday, the Church encourages us to rejoice as we journey with Jesus to Calvary through our forty days of Prayer, Fasting, and Almsgiving so that He will give us new life on Easter Sunday. We all have our individual life struggles and challenges. We also experience different natural disasters and tragedies in our world. But our Lenten self-sacrifices and the realities of this world should not overtake our inner joy. Rather, we should always be joyful bearing in mind we are carrying our cross with Jesus. This Sunday also encourages us to be joyful because Jesus died on the cross in order to give us eternal life. This reminds us of God’s love for us all. Lent is the season for us to joyfully live out God’s love through our relationship with Him and our neighbor. During this Lenten Season, let us pray for God’s grace to overcome any form of darkness in our lives so that the joy in us will continue to radiate for others to see His presence in us. May the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Cause of all Joy continue to help us to share that joy given to us by God with our neighbors. Happy Laetare Sunday to you all.
