From the pastor - North Presbyterian Church
July 20, 2014 From the pastor It’s hard to believe that we’re halfway through Summer! Unless you’re still in school, summer doesn’t necessarily mean we have 3 months of vacation. But there is usually a change of schedule, and that in itself is refreshing. SuzeAnn and I are grateful that we are able to take some time for refreshment this coming week, and I hope that you are able to find time and opportunity for recreation and restoration and maybe travel sometime this summer as well. I’m also grateful for our staff and leaders who are attending to our ministry as a church while I’m gone. Here’s a glimpse at some of what the coming weeks hold for us at NPC: • This Sunday: Youth Pastor Gary Loomans is preaching part 2 of our Trusting God Sermon Series and Pastoral Associate Rev. Dr. Larry Sancoucie is leading our time of Communion. • Next Week: The Teen iMPACT group will be on a mission trip to Guatemal. Be in prayer for Gary, Joann, Intern Liz Casler, Alex Owens, Libby Loomans and Gideon Coffey. • Next Sunday: Dr. Sansoucie will be preaching part 3 of our Trusting God Sermons Series. • Sunday, Aug 3: We begin a 3 part sermon series on Loving God and our Annual Congregational Meeting will be held after worship, where we receive annual reports and elect new officers. • Saturday, August 9: Northminster Presbyterian Church is sending a group of its members to do some much needed work around the church building. • Sunday, August 24: Hamilton Avenue will be closed off for a neighborhood street party, and we’ll begin the morning worshiping outside on the street! Once again, we welcome Dr. Michael Unger, Assistant Professor of Organ and Harpsichord at CCM, as the guest organist for our worship service. Prof. Unger holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the Eastman School of Music, where he studied under David Higgs and William Porter. He is a multiple award-winning performer, appearing as soloist and chamber musician in North America, Europe and Japan. His performances have been broadcast on North American and European radio in addition to syndicated programs Pipedreams and With Heart and Voice. Recently, he performed with Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra members in collaboration with the Cincinnati Opera production of La Calisto. Please welcome Dr. Unger to our church this morning! CAIN needs donations of feminine hygiene items The Deacons have designated July as “hygiene” month. Bring your regular size containers of “hygiene” items, deodorant, shaving cream and razors to the basket at the back of the sanctuary. Thank you. Where’s Sam? At Compass a leadership training program. Sam has completed the Wilderness and Theological Expeditions. Today he leaves for the Ministry Expedition in Nicaragua. Here’s a few pics. Help us plan Discovery Hour for this Fall During today’s service, we’ll all have another chance to fill in a survey to guide the team that’s planning this fall’s Adult Discovery Hour. Maybe you’d like our class to study the 152page Westminster Confession of Faith in its original Elizabethan English. Now’s your chance to suggest that. Or if you think you have a better idea, suggest that one—quickly. Come and see . . .
