LES CALÈCHES DE LANESSAN HAUT-MEDOC Rouge (Red) Ownership & history: Vintage: Domaine Bouteiller consists of two estates next door to one another, Château Lanessan and Château de Sainte Gemme. They have been in the Bouteiller family since the 18th century. There is currently something of a renaissance taking place since talented winemaker Paz Espejo took charge in August 2009. 2010 Blend: 50% Merlot 45% Cab. Sauvignon 3% Petit Verdot 2% Cabernet Franc Cellaring potential: Vineyard & location: The domain is in the heart of the Médoc close to Saint-Julien, with prestigious neighbours such as Château Lagrange and Château Gruaud Larose. Harvest, vinification & ageing: Calèches is the second wine of Château Lanessan. The fruit is harvested by machine at optimal ripeness and screened on a sorting table. The wine is made in concrete tanks with temperature regulation. The fermentation period, racking and ageing in cask are adapted to the vintage and the characteristics of each vintage. 6 years Awards & press: 2006: Silver medal at Bordeaux WC 2008: Bronze medal at Bordeaux WC 2009: Bronze medal at Challenge International du Vin Tasting: Full-bodied, sumptuous tannins and charming aromas, revealing fruity flavours with little black wild fruits blended with toasted notes from the ageing in oak casks.
