The Catechism of the Catholic Church clearly states that
“On Sundays and other holy days of obligation the faithful
are bound to participate in the Mass” (#2180) and goes on
to state that “Those who deliberately fail in this obligation
commit a grave [mortal] sin.” (#2181)
SACRAMENT OF PENANCE
8:30-9:30 am or by appointment
BAPTISMS
Baptisms are scheduled on the Second Sunday of the month at
11:30 AM based on parental requests. Participation in a Parent
Preparation Program is mandatory before the baptism of the
child. Our preparation Program is held on the first Tuesday of
each month at 7:00 PM. Attendance at Sunday Mass on the
day of the Baptism is Mandatory.
Please call the Parish office to schedule a baptism.
WEDDINGS
All weddings are scheduled by the Pastor of the Parish.
Office staff cannot schedule a wedding and a wedding is not
considered to be officially scheduled until the couple receives
written confirmation from the Pastor of the Parish.
Couples desiring to be married need to speak directly with the
Pastor BEFORE reserving a hall. Only the Bride or Groom
may request a date for their wedding. Diocesan policy
requires that a 6 month (minimum) preparation process be
completed prior to the celebration of all weddings.
Weddings are not scheduled on Sundays.

R.C.I.A.
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is an ongoing formation process for adults who are interested in becoming a
Catholic and adult Catholics who would like to receive the
sacraments of Confirmation and/or First Eucharist. Please call
the Parish Office for additional information.
ANOINTING OF THE SICK
Parishioners who are seriously or critically ill, or have surgery
scheduled should receive the Sacrament of Anointing and
Healing. Please call the parish office to request this sacrament.
Regular visits are also made by our Pastoral Staff and Ministers of Care to bring Holy Communion to hospitalized or
homebound parishioners. Anyone desiring such a visit should
call the Parish Office.

FROM FATHER JOHN: “But, brothers and sisters, consider this passage from the book of Lamentations: ‘His mercies never
come to an end; they are new every morning.’ God promises are always true. If we express our sorrow, go to confession, and ask
for forgiveness, it will be given! How deep and rich and wide is the mercy of God. Saint Faustina, to whom the Lord revealed the
depths of his mercy, heard these words from Christ: ‘I desire that the whole world know my infinite mercy. I desire to grant
unimaginable graces to those souls who trust in my mercy.’ (Dairy of Saint Maria Faustina, 687)’” – Sister Ann Shields, Servants

He is Risen, Alleluia, Alleluia!
“On the first day of the week, Mary of Magdala came to the tomb early in the morning, while it was still dark, and saw the stone
removed from the tomb. So she ran and went to Simon Peter and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and told them, ‘They
have taken the Lord from the tomb, and we don’t know where they put him.’ So Peter and the other disciple went out and came to
the tomb. They both ran, but the other disciple ran faster than Peter and arrived at the tomb first; he bent down and saw the
burial cloths there, but did not go in. When Simon Peter arrived after him, he went into the tomb and saw the burial cloths
there, and the cloth that had covered his head, not with the burial cloths but rolled up in a separate place. Then the other
disciple also went in, the one who had arrived at the tomb first, and he saw and believed. For they did not yet understand the
Scripture that he had to rise from the dead.” (John 20:1 - 9)
The disciples met in fear and anxiety. They rejoiced when they met the risen Lord. Then, they went out on mission; they went out
with confidence and boldly proclaimed the Word of the Lord throughout the world. The resurrection of our Lord Jesus gave the
apostles and the disciples hope in the face of their fears just as it offers us hope today. It gave them confidence in the future. The
gospels remind each of us to recognize the risen Lord in our own lives, to rejoice in the risen Lord, to embrace his presence among
us just as the disciples did over two-thousand years ago and to be ever thankful for the great and wondrous Divine Mercy which is
given to us each and every day.
Today, we continue the celebration of Easter with the celebration of the Feast of Divine Mercy which is the last day in the Octave of
Easter. We celebrate the fact that when the world was in darkness, when the world was full of sin and death, God gave us his only
Son. They nailed him to a cross, he endured suffering and sadness, he died and was buried and on the third day he rose again, he
rose from the dead to rescue us from sin. Jesus says to us, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, even though
he die, will live with me forever.” In His resurrection, Jesus Christ is Victorious, he has won the great victory over sin and death and
darkness. In the victory of His cross and resurrection, he has given us grace upon grace.
God has been very good to me throughout my life. The mercy of God is something that I experience every day and experience in a
special way as I live out the priesthood. I once read something that Fr. Tony Taschetta, a retired priest of the Diocese of Joliet, wrote
concerning Divine Mercy. It struck me as both particularly encouraging and very similar to my own reflections on Divine Mercy.
I thought I would share it will you.
“I love mercy. Why? Because I love anything that’s free. And if mercy is anything it is free. That means, it is unearned. Let me
say categorically, unequivocally that I love Divine Mercy. The definition of mercy is the gift of God’s love and forgiveness. It is
unearned, unmerited and there is nothing you need to do to get it except be open to it. And when you are, it simply floods in.”
Fr. Tony is absolutely right. The Divine Mercy of God is completely free, unearned, unmerited but is present to us in a huge
over-abundance if we are willing to open our hearts, our souls and our lives to God’s great mercy. We experience it each day in one
another, in the sacraments, in the scriptures, in the day-to-day happenings of our lives and even in the beauty of God’s creation as
we sit on a beach in awe of God’s glory.
The mercy of God is something that we experience every day whether we realize it or not. We need to open our hearts to it, receive
it and accept it as part of lives and our union with the Lord. But, the only way to truly accept God’s Divine Mercy is to respond to it
by entering into a real relationship with our Lord Jesus and living a life of discipleship.
I will leave you with the words of Pope Francis, “It is not easy to entrust oneself to God's mercy, because it is an abyss beyond our
comprehension. But we must! ... O
" h, I am a great sinner!""All the better! Go to Jesus: He likes you to tell him these things!"
He forgets, He has a very special capacity for forgetting. He forgets, He kisses you, He embraces you and He simply says to you:
"Neither do I condemn you; go, and sin no more" (Jn 8:11). … I am always struck when I reread the parable of the merciful Father.
... The Father, with patience, love, hope and mercy, had never for a second stopped thinking about [his wayward son], and as soon
as he sees him still far off, he runs out to meet him and embraces him with tenderness, the tenderness of God, without a word of
reproach. ... God is always waiting for us, He never grows tired. Jesus shows us this merciful patience of God so that we can regain
confidence and hope — always!”

REP NEWS
REP classes will resume at 5:45 pm on Monday, April 4 in the school.
There will be Bread Blessing for all REP First Communicants on Monday, April 4 in Church. Please remember to bring a loaf of bread. There will also be a short practice.
There is a meeting for ALL students and their parents in both school and REP who will be receiving First
Communion next weekend. Please meet in Church on Tuesday, April 5 at 6 pm. The meeting will consist of
a prayer service, blessing of scapulars and other religious articles and a short practice. Banners, video order forms and letters
to Jesus are due at this time.
On Friday, April 8, all First Communicants in both REP and school will have First Communion practice beginning at 3:30 in
the school basement and ending at 5 pm in the Church. REP students needing a written excuse to leave school early should
contact Sr. Karen in the Religious Education Office, 815-725-6927.
On Saturday, April 9, 41 students in school and REP will be receiving First Communion at a special Mass at 11 am. Doors to
the Church will open at 10 am. If you have any questions, please call Sr. Karen at the Religious Education Office.

Living New Life in the Spirit is a work of the Holy Spirit. Through this seven week seminar, the Holy Spirit will

Hope Helps 6th Annual raffle and Silent Auction for Autism is
coming up Saturday, April 9th at St. Paul the Apostle in the
Gymnasium from 8 am to 2pm.
The event is a fundraiser to help the autism non profit, which serves
Will and Grundy Counties, to raise funds to build a special needs,
sensory playground in their servicing area.

food and family activities, comedy clubs, wine tastings and more with silent
auction item to include grill package, Smart TV, sound bar package, casino
