Directions
From Perth follow signs for Dundee. About 500 yards after
joining the A90, to the north of the Friarton Bridge, leave the
dual carriageway at the signpost to Kinfauns. Then fork right and
drive past a converted steading. Follow the road alongside the
former walled gardens to Kinfauns Castle and the bloc paved
driveway up to Taybank House is a short distance along this
road on the left with the house clearly visible up above.
Situation
Taybank House is in a prime elevated position overlooking the
Carse of Gowrie and the River Tay. The area is known for its
fertile farmland and temperate climate which is ideal for growing
fruit. The property has been built on land which once belonged
to the impressive Kinfauns Castle which sits up above Taybank
House.
Perth, which has recently achieved City status, is considered
one of the most desirable Scottish towns in which to live. It has
an excellent range of shops, supermarkets and professional
services and is in a pivotal position with motorway and dual
carriageway connections to all the major cities of central
Scotland. The house is well situated for access to both the
town centre and the motorway network. Perth also has a railway
station with services to Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, Aberdeen
and Inverness.
Recreational opportunities in and around Perth are excellent.
Scone Palace, one of Scotland’s finest stately homes, is just
two miles away. There is National Hunt racing and polo at
Scone, which also hosts the Scottish Game Fair. There are
numerous good golf courses nearby, including Murrayshall, and
Rosemount at Blairgowrie. Perth is a gateway to the Highlands
with ample opportunities for hillwalking and skiing at both Glen
Shee and Aviemore.
The local primary school is at Kinnoull and there are four
secondary schools in the town. There are a good number
of private schools nearby including Craigclowan, Strathallan,
Glenalmond and Kilgraston, and Morrison’s Academy and
Ardvreck in Crieff.
Description
Taybank House was built in 1987 to an award winning design by
the architect William J Beatson. The property is characterised
by its glass frontage which enables all the principal rooms to
make the very best of its stunning southerly views. The property
is entered on the lower ground floor where there are two
spacious rooms which would be ideal as family or games rooms
or even for a gym. There is a wc on this floor. The remainder
of the accommodation is on the first floor where the views
can be enjoyed to maximum effect. The formal sitting room is
connected to the dining room via a glazed sun room. A particular
feature of the kitchen is the dining area which is arranged in front
of a window alcove with window seat. Four double bedrooms
are situated along the eastern side of the property and include
a master bedroom with en suite bedroom, fitted wardrobes and
access to the balcony. The parquet flooring and Charles Rennie
Mackintosh style internal doors are examples of the quality of
finish that was applied when the house was built.
Outside
Taybank House is approached by a bloc paved driveway with
neat lawns on either side which leads to parking beside the
house. To the rear of the property a pretty gravel pathway
winds up through terraced beds which are filled with interesting
plants and shrubs. A garden gate at the top provides pedestrian
access onto the minor public road that runs between Taybank
House and Kinfauns Castle. Immediately behind the house is
a drying green and on the western side of the property there is
a paved terrace, accessible from the sitting room and ideal for
entertaining in good weather.
Outbuildings
There is an integrated double garage and a garden store.
