We were left with three, zero results for the first day and feeling a little sorry for ourselves. This was when Geoff Lloyd took me to one side and asked how would Mumbles fancy hosting the 2014 Nationals? I quickly sought opinion from other club officers and the answer was a resounding yes! Chris Osborne, Commodore, and I met with the UKIDA Committee members present at the event. During discussion someone mentioned that as the Worlds were in South Africa, maybe Mumbles could consider bidding for the Europeans! So we said YES! That gave us 14 months to prepare. Loads of time?!?! Dick Lewis a veteran of this type of event pointed out this actually wasn’t a lot of time for such a prestigious event and soon we would all be running round finalising details. How right he was… So here we are. The event is upon us!! Some of us are now concentrating on sailing and leaving the planning team behind to run the event. Introducing the team: Richard ‘Dick’ Lewis Event Director, will be based on the club roof. Breakfast, Lunch, Afternoon Tea, Dinner, Desserts and Drinks... In one of the UKs finest destinations Andrew Edwards Event Safety Officer, coordinating his team from the club roof. Graham Wright will ensure everybody has a drink with his willing team behind the bar. Martin Stephens RYA, NRO, Senior Mark Layer. He and his team will be laying fab courses all week. Mumbles is here to help! Our blue T-shirted helpers are on hand for you!! Please do not hesitate to call on their help. I hope you all have a great week with us and wish you every success on the water and in the bar! We have entries from all over the UK and from all the big Dart fleets in Europe to contest the Championships which are the first Dart 18 Europeans since 2006 as well as the UK national championships! I know there will be the usual tight battle at the top of the fleet, but I also hope that every sailor, no matter where they come in the results, enjoys the event. Hopefully the weather will be kind and we will all get the chance to enjoy the fantastic sailing conditions. I know everyone at Mumbles Yacht Club has put in vast amounts of effort to make sure everything works smoothly on the water, and to arrange a great social programme. See you all on the water or at the bar. Have a great week! Whilst water is essential for life it is not ideally suited to cooling engines – where it has a natural tendency to boil, corrode, erode and generate high operating pressures. Evans Coolants have a boiling point above 180 degrees eliminating overheating, boil-over and afterboil. They are proven to increase engine reliability, reduce maintenance costs and boost performance. Evans allows the cooling system to run at a lower pressure, reducing strain on hoses and other engine components. The formula improves combustion, maximises BHP and prevents corrosion. Evans lasts much, much longer than traditional long-life coolants and many engines have had Evans in for 16 years without the need for change-out. Evans Coolants were recently crowned Top Product in Professional Motor Mechanic Magazine’s annual reader poll. The awards, selected on the level of interest and enquiries generated by PMM’s 60,000+ readership, are a great reflection on those manufacturers and suppliers that have made a real difference to the independent garage technician’s ability to maintain the high standards expected of modern day servicing and repairs. Evans are technical partners with Honda Racing and many other leading teams including Mosler, Falken UK and KTM UK. Classic Cool 180 is the number one choice for classic car specialists, restorers and motoring authorities including, Quentin Willson and Edd China. ‘Evans Waterless Coolant is worth its weight. My E-Type was converted 12 months ago and it runs beautifully. The busy traffic and hot weather now hold no terror, and the absence of water in the cooling system means zero corrosion. Feels good.’ Quentin Willson. Evans’ range of coolants include, Power Cool 180˚ (performance cars), Classic Cool 180˚ (classic cars), Auto Cool 180˚ (modern production cars), Vintage Cool 180˚ (pre-war cars), Powersports (motorcycles), Marine Cool 180 (cruisers & sports boats) and Heavy Duty (commercial diesels).
