THE GOOD TIMES THE AUGUST 2016 GOOD TIMES Nikole’sEtsyMadness BoysattheBikeshed Boys will be boys as Nick Horn and Jon Peeler are still hanging out in the back of the Bikeshed. The Bikeshed, 384 Old Street Shoreditch started in 2011 as an online blog about one mans journey as a modern sportsbike rider into the ‘new wave’ custom motor- For those of you who don’t know, Nikole has a terrible Chinese painting habit. Creating at least two-three paintings a week and pushing herself once a year to a 30 day challenge in ‘Spontaneous’ style painting, creating one painting a day for, yes, 30 days straight! When asked “why Chinese Painting?” Nikole replied “it’s just the opposite of tattooing, it’s so loose and freeing and I love the challenge. It was so difficult at the beginning learning how to use the brush because it’s not like any other style of painting but as you progress you want to keep improving. Also I’ve always loved oriental art hence my Japanese tattoos so I just wanted to try something new. Since I started I haven’t been able to stop” Chinese spontaneous painting is a freehand style on delicate rice paper with simple strokes used to represent the subject. These are generally birds, flowers, landscapes, animals and people. There is no drawing just brush to paper with the aim being to capture the life and spirit of the subject through the brush and into the eyes of the viewer. So what do you do with all these paintings mounting up everywhere? Open an Etsy store of course! With over 80 unframed original works of various sizes and subjects you’re sure to find something you like. If you want a framed piece you can find some of her favourite pieces on our Big Cartel site. She is also available for commissions and loves a mural challenge. You can follow her progress on the links below. With a café/restaurant, retailandgalleryspacenot tomentionabarbersthey arealwaysupforsomething different. Our very own Horn being a keen motorcyclist jumped at the opportunity when asked to do a day of ‘demonstration tattooing’ at their Summer Smoke Out on 30th July. With Live music, BBQ, street food, art and bikes everywhere it was a day to remember. It’s always good to do something a little different and get out of our usual routines, and supporting other local businesses is what it’s all about. Thanks The Bikeshed for having us. www.goodtimestattoo.bigcartel.com PAGE 1 THE GOOD TIMES AUGUST 2016 ShoreditchDesignTriangle Top; 2015 Design triangle display Bottom; Last years private view For the third year running Good Times is proud to be a part of the Shoreditch Design Triangle. PAGE 3 THE GOOD TIMES AUGUST 2016 OpenMicnightsuccess Good Times third open mic night was a great success with the best bunch of people attending since it started last year. Along with the original line up we were also very lucky to have a few new faces performing who assure us they’ll be back next time. These regular events seem to be growing in popularity because it’s just a lovely night out doing something different in London. This is one of those raw events that reminds you how special and cool London can be. Anything goes with singing, guitar, poetry, trumpets and hoola hooping it’s a chance to get up and have a go. Lucky for us Nikole’s parents were in town from New Zealand and good old Hot Rod (her dad pictured right) played the last song of the evening with Nikole by his side singing which got everyone up having a good old knees up. So keep your eyes and ears open for our next evening as all are welcome to participate or just come and have a drink, watch and enjoy a ‘Good Time’.
