Well, here we are at the end of my
term as Director of Blackstone Valley
HOG. It has been an honor to serve for
this position as well as Asst. Director. At times it is a lot of work, but I did
enjoy it. I have learned so much in the
last few years. But the most important
thing is that I have grown closer to so
many of my brothers and sisters in BVH. We have had some rough
times. Some members have passed away. Some have been ill or
injured. But no matter what, we all stand together. I could not be
more proud of being Director of this group! Thank you all for allowing me to do this.

Greetings all
Well, here it is October. Days are a little shorter, temps are a little
cooler. But the season is not over. I hope that all of you enjoyed
this summer of riding and get some more ride time in this
Fall. Don't forget we have the Christmas is for Kids ride in November.
Just want to say I have enjoyed being Assistant Director and hope
that I've done right by all of you. It’s been good.
Ride Safe and watch out for the idiots because no matter where
your riding, they’re not watching you.

George’s Surf & Turf—Paul Gaouette
August 31, 2016
Three bikes carrying five people left Man mar for a dinner ride to
George’s Surf & Turf on Wednesday evening August, 31st. The weather forecast for the night was a chance of showers but warm temperatures. The route took familiar backroads arriving at George’s a little
before 7 pm. The route home took more familiar roads and yes, I ran into a few sprinkles before getting my bike into the garage.
Woodman’s Clams—Paul Gaouette
September 11, 2016
Six motorcycles carrying eight people left Man-Mar with a destination
of Woodman’s Clams on Sunday, September 11th. With the weather
man forecasting possible showers around noon, my plan was to be
inside Woodman’s while it rained and ride home in the afternoon sunshine. (Timing is everything!) We started out on the usual course, Rte.
1 to Rte. 95 then through the Ted Williams Tunnel getting off the highway at Rte.145. From here we continued along the north shore arriving at a Dunkin Donuts in Lynn a little after 10am. Still dry, we were
about to continue on when it started to sprinkle and soon after pour
buckets. Time to gather our rain gear and run to an overhang for cover! With rain gear on we
continued along the north shore arriving at Woodman’s a little before noon, still dry as the rain
stopped as we left the comfort stop! Inside Woodman’s we ordered our lunch and went outside to the pavilion to enjoy, unfortunately yellow jackets were swarming so we settled for the
second floor of Woodman’s with the windows open and a cool breeze. The ride home took Rte.
62 with a missed turn where I signaled a turn around. But after further analysis of my GPS, I
decided to continue on and reconnect with my route further up the road. Riding back to Rte.
62 we took some nice back roads. Unfortunately one turned into a road under construction,
(dirt) and what do you know, looking in my mirror my sweep is missing. This is not going to look
good on my resume…. Nonetheless, after a phone call, we met up with the sweep and made
our way home with one more comfort stop and no other incidents.

Pie in the Sky—Dave Paille
September 17, 2016
On a nice and sunny day, ten bikes and twelve people met at Man-Mar, for a 100 mile trip to
The Pie In The Sky Bakery and Cafe, in Woods Hole MA.
After riding some nice back roads through the Berkley, Rochester and Acushnet area, we
made our usual stop at a Dunkin's in Wareham for a quick coffee.
Heading back out we crossed over the Bourne Bridge and got to ride some nice winding roads,
all while avoiding the highway. With views of the water and sailboats, and with almost no traffic, we reached our destination in Woods Hole. All of the baked goods and sandwiches were
tasty, and they roast their own coffee right there.
After our lunch, not wanting to just take highway all the way back, we took a leisurely ride
along the water, past the Nobska Lighthouse and eventually along the canal. Once over the
bridge again, we all went our separate ways.
All in all it was a good day.... Thank you to all that attended...

Rolling Thunder RI-Never Forgotten Ride—Dave Paille
September 18, 2016
Seven bikes left Man-Mar, to support Rolling Thunder RI Chapter's Never Forgotten Ride. Rather than take all highway there, we opted for the scenic route out through Lincoln, Coventry
and into West Warwick.
Another nice day for a great cause, the chapter assists veterans in need of help. We left Cardi’s in West Warwick and
made our way to Stick's Tavern in Chepachet RI. The ceremony did not disappoint, the names were read of military members from Rhode Island who have passed in the line of duty,
in service to our country since 9/11. Part of the ceremony,
veterans from the audience as well as family members of the
fallen would release a balloon for each name read. I have
done this ride many times and I still get choked up every
time.
After the ceremony we had a bite to eat, and even had some
of our members win at the raffles.
A big thank you to all that attended.
Minuteman HOG Homes for Our Troops Ride—Dave Paille
September 25, 2016
The day started out on the chilly side but was a sunny day and was supposed to warm
up. Seven bikes and nine people departed Man-Mar, to support Minuteman HOG's Homes for
Our Troops charity ride. Not wanting to go directly to the starting point, we took the Blackstone
route there. So after over 50 miles of backroads, and barely having to put our feet down we
reached our destination, Minuteman Harley Davidson.
The event started off with the Pledge of Allegiance
and The National Anthem, followed by a short
presentation. The police led ride left the dealer
and wove through some nice roads and eventually
returned to the dealer for refreshments. There
was something to eat for everyone, from chicken
to chowder to pizza.... and plenty of it.
While some left directly for home, a handful of us
decided to take the longer way back home.

York Open House—Gail Grasso
September 21-25, 2016
I had the pleasure of going to York, PA for the first time this year; I certainly picked the right year to go!
Dave M did an amazing job leading all the day trips we took and the weather couldn’t have been much
better. Since this was not only my first time going to York, it also was the furthest I had ever gone on my
own bike, I thought I’d tell the story from my point of view.
Day 1 (Wednesday)-The trip to York. We left Man-Mar at 6:00 AM, some of us having to traverse through
fog to get there. The ride took 10 hours altogether. After checking in, we had dinner at Texas Roadhouse
then social time in the outdoor seating area.
Day 2 (Thursday)-York Factory Open House/Battlefield HD/Gettysburg. We arrived at the HD Factory (I’m
not ashamed to admit I got a little misty-eyed pulling into the parking lot) and took the tour while the factory was in operation. It was incredible being able to see the motorcycles actually being made. The employees happily answered questions and explained what they were doing. We explored the tents, representing 4 local dealerships, and got our pins. Afterwards, we stopped by Battlefield HD for some shopping then headed to Gettysburg. Seeing the battlefield and all of the history it represents, plus being
able to speak to people there who were able to recount stories, was quite an experience. Another dinner
at Texas Roadhouse was followed by taking over the lobby of the Hampton Inn and turning it into Patriot’s Nation as we cheered the Patriots on during a shutout versus the Texans.
Day 3 (Friday)-Flight 93 Memorial, Shanksville, PA. After a chilly morning ride, we finally arrived at the
Memorial site. To say that seeing it was overwhelming is an understatement… The memories of the
events of September 11 are still so fresh on everyone’s mind. The paved pathway representing the flight
path was marked to note the other planes that went down, finally ending at an overlook where you could
see the actual crash site, the boulder at its end and the memorial wall. The visitor center was full of
memorabilia from the flight, including recordings left by passengers to their loved ones. Some people
listened to these, I just couldn’t… Those that did wished they hadn’t, especially when they got to the wall
of photographs of the passengers and crew and they could see the face that went with the name. After
all that emotion, everyone needed a “break” so we headed to Bube’s Brewery for some refreshment and
back to the hotel.
Day 4 (Saturday)-Lancaster HD/Amish Country. The weather turned cooler but was still very comfortable.
We rode some beautiful twisty, scenic roads; dodging buggies and the occasional “deposit”. It was a
nice, easy day ride-wise… very scenic and a much slower pace. We stopped at Lancaster HD for some
shopping and lunch then headed over to Bird in Hand bakery for dessert… YUM! Back at the hotel, we
had dinner and some social time then called it an early (ish) night; we had an early day the next morning!
Day 5 (Sunday)-HOME! 7 AM and off we go and boy was it cold! Everyone was bundled up for the long
trek home. The temperature got slightly warmer as the day went on but we mostly kept our layers on to
combat the wind on the highway; the ride was fairly uneventful until after the lunch stop at the PA/NY
border. Shortly after that was the “Whoopie Pie Incident”, which gave us laughs for the rest of the trip
home. All bikes and riders made it home safely.
Once again, thank you so much Dave M for an amazing long weekend with some of the best people I
have the pleasure of knowing. The memories of this roughly 1400-mile trip will stay with me for a very
long time!
